Linking to the Virtual Library of Biology
You can link to vifabio, its individual modules (for example to the Internet Guide) and many further vifabio pages from your web pages. Furthermore, you can create a graphical link in the form of the vifabio logo by copying the following HTML code into the source code of your web page.
Example link
... by inserting the following HTML code into your source:
<!-- Beginning of HTML code (vifabio) --> <a target="_blank" href="http://www.vifabio.de?lang=en"> <img style="border: 0px solid" alt="vifabioLogo" title="vifabio: www.vifabio.de" src="http://www.vifabio.de/images/logo/LOGO.png" /> </a> <!-- End of HTML code (vifabio) -->
Where 'http://www.vifabio.de/images/logo/LOGO.png' is the path to the respective version of the logo; there are multiple versions available for use (see "Logo for download"). You can determine the paths to the vifabio logos in Properties or using "Copy Image Location" in Mozilla Firefox’s contextual menu.
Linking to special search results in the Virtual Catalogue
You can place direct links to searches in the Virtual Catalogue on your web site. Our special SearchLink Generator lets you create a permanent link after inputting your desired search terms. If necessary, special conditions (choosing particular target databases or fields) can be added with only a few mouse clicks.

myBioLinks
If you have your own website or are responsible for pages with biological content, you may display link lists from vifabio's Internet Guide directly on your web pages - using your own page layout.
The technical background to the dynamic display is the inclusion of a few Javascript lines in the source code of your web presence, whereby an Internet Guide query is initiated according to established criteria.
For example, single thematic sections can be chosen via BioDDC-numbers (see below) such as “576.5 Genetics“ (1st example). With the truncation character “*“ e.g. “576.5*” the simultaneous selection of the underlying hierarchical numbers is possible (2nd example).
You can include the myBioLinks examples in your own web page by copying the HTML code given below into the source file of your web page (Example of a test page: BioLIS; for other thematic sections, insert the respective DDC numbers, cf. documentation as PDF, 350 kB).
Examples for link lists:
1. Example with standard settings
Genetics
and, for this, the appropriate source code:
<!-- Beginning of HTML code (myBioLinks) --> <h1>Genetics</h1> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.vifabio.de/iqfBio/myBioLinks.html?DDC=576.5"> </script> <noscript> In order to see the link list, you must activate Javascript! </noscript> <!-- End of HTML code (myBioLinks) --> |
2. Example with standard settings and truncation
and, for this, the appropriate source code:
<!-- Beginning of HTML code (myBioLinks) --> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.vifabio.de/iqfBio/myBioLinks.html?DDC=576.5*&title=Genetics"> </script> <noscript> In order to see the link list, you must activate Javascript! </noscript> <!-- End of HTML code (myBioLinks) --> |
3. Example with summary and further parameters
and, for this, the appropriate source code:
<!-- Beginning of HTML code (myBioLinks) --> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.vifabio.de/iqfBio/myBioLinks.html?DDC=576.5&title=Genetics&chunk=5&format=f&lang=en"> </script> <noscript> In order to see the link list, you must activate Javascript! </noscript> <!-- End of HTML code (myBioLinks) --> |
Explanations of the possible parameters
The BioDDC number is a mandatory parameter. There is, however, another series of optional parameters that can be set as you wish.
- title - title of the link list, e.g. title=Origin+of+life (spaces are masked with “+”).
- sort - sorting of the hits. Possible values:
- „title“ (standard) - alphabetic sorting (a->z)
- „mage“ - modification date of the metadata (new->old)
- „cage“ - creation date of the metadata (new->old)
- lang - language of the output. Possible values:
- „de“ (standard) – German
- „en“ - English
- format - output format. Possible values:
- „b“(=brief; standard) - only the title is returned as a link
- „f“(=full) - the title with “abstract” is returned. Combines very well with “lang“.
- type - filtering of the hits. Possible values:
- „all“ (standard) - all hits.
- „dbonly“ - only databases i.e. hits from Database Guide.
- chunk - number of hits delivered. Possible values:
- whole number from 1-1000. Preset value is 1000 or all hits respectively.
- class - the name of the class to be returned for one’s own style-sheets, e.g. class=externalLink
- js (=javascript) - possible values:
- „enabled“ (standard) - javascript switched on.
- „disabled“ - javascript switched off. Important if the Linklist is to be respectively displayed or included, without javascript, or in the <noscript> part, e.g.:
<noscript> <div> <object style="width: 100%; height: 200px;" type="text/html" data="http://www.vifabio.de/iqfBio/myBioLinks.html?DDC=576.5&title=Genetics&js=disabled"> </object> </div> </noscript>
Terms of use
The use of myBiolinks is NOT coupled with special conditions.
We would be pleased if we were to be cited as a source, and/or have a return link to vifabio.
