The first international "Fascination of Plants Day" (May 18th 2012) will be launched under the umbrella of the European Plant Science Organisation. Because of their enjoyment of, and interest in, the plant world, botanists, plant lovers, and friends of nature of all ages and professions have amalgamated in the Botanical Association for Nature Protection in Hesse (BNVH). We put our collective knowledge to the service of nature protection and particularly the protection of the plant world. In 1986 the BVNH was recognised as a Hessian nature protection association as defined in §29 of the Federal Nature Conservancy Act thereby obtaining the right (amongst others) to bring attention to the needs of nature protection in public planning, particularly from a botanical viewpoint. We arrange excursions and lectures in which you learn not only botanical and natural history facts, but also make contact with other people. Ein Schwerpunkt senckenbergischer Forschung ist seit der Gründung der SNG die Flora des Rhein-Main-Gebietes und Hessens. Dies wird durch zahlreiche Publikationen sowie umfangreiche Herbaraufsammlungen und unveröffentlichte Daten im Herbarium Senckenbergianum (FR) dokumentiert. Durch die seit 1985 im Auftrag des Umweltamtes der Stadt Frankfurt durchgeführte Biotopkartierung und Sonderprojekte zur Biodiversitätserfassung liegt eine einzigartige, umfangreiche Datenbasis zu Inventar und Verbreitung der Pflanzenarten in Frankfurt vor. Auf der Basis dieser Daten und jahrelanger Geländearbeit wurde eine aktuelle Liste der Farn- und Blütenpflanzen in Frankfurt am Main erstellt, die hier als Download abrufbar ist. Auf den Webseiten zur Flora von Frankfurt am Main finden Sie Informationen über die Pflanzenvielfalt, die Verbreitung und Ökologie sowie die Geschichte der Pflanzenarten in Frankfurt am Main. Bisher sind im Stadtgebiet über 1.700 Pflanzenarten „wildwachsend“ nachgewiesen worden, 1.340 kommen aktuell vor (eine Gesamtartenliste kann heruntergeladen werden). Ziel des Projekts ist es, alle in Frankfurt wildwachsenden Arten auf dieser Internet-Seite zu präsentieren. Arten, die nur angepflanzt vorkommen, werden nicht berücksichtigt. Zur Zeit umfasst die Datenbank 400 Arten, und zwar vor allem solche, die außergewöhnlich und für Schutz und Erhaltung der Stadtnatur besonders wichtig sind, nämlich geschützte, seltene, vom Aussterben bedrohte und verschollene Arten, die in die Rote Liste des Landes Hessen (RL Hessen) bzw. die Rote Liste für den hessischen Naturraum Südwest (RL H SW) aufgenommen sind, sowie Neophyten (eingebürgerte Neubürger).
