It follows that fungi, individually and collectively, are of immense economic importance, and the aim of our Congress Programme, which is in preparation, is to celebrate these wonderful organisms by reviewing their role in culture, science and society. The PYFF conferences are unique in bringing together, every 3 years, researchers interested in the physiology of yeasts and filamentous fungi, under the auspices of the EFB Microbial Physiology Section. PYFF6 will be hosted by Instituto Superior Técnico, the engineering, science and technology school of the University of Lisbon, and will take place at the Alameda campus of this university, located right in the city centre.
