On August 15th, 1845, the Association for the Dutch Flora was founded, which later became the Royal Dutch Botanical Society (Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging Botanical; KNBV). The KNBV is one of the oldest scientific associations in the Netherlands. The purpose of the association is to promote the knowledge of plants.
