The Center for International Forestry Research is a nonprofit, global facility dedicated to advancing human wellbeing, environmental conservation and equity. We conduct research that enables more informed and equitable decision making about the use and management of forests in less-developed countries. Our research and expert analysis help policy makers and practitioners shape effective policy, improve the management of tropical forests and address the needs and perspectives of people who depend on forests for their livelihoods. Our multidisciplinary approach considers the underlying drivers of deforestation and degradation which often lie outside the forestry sector: forces such as agriculture, infrastructure development, trade and investment policies and law enforcement. ... The European Forest Institute is the leading forest research network in Europe. It is an international organisation established by European States. EFI conducts research and provides policy advice on forest related issues. Further, it facilitates and stimulates forest related networking as well as promotes the supply of unbiased and policy relevant information on forests and forestry. It also advocates for forest research and for scientifically sound information as a basis for policy-making on forests. All these activities are done either at the pan-European level or the work is of European relevance and they are carried out by both the Institute’s HQ and Regional Offices. The Headquarters’ research units are: a) Sustainability and Climate Change b) Policy and Governance c) Foresight and Information EFI’s work in the field of policy advice includes enhanced support for decision takers and policy makers. It has a strong policy advice role by hosting the EU FLEGT Facility which supports the EU Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade (FLEGT) process in developing countries, related to the implementation of the EU FLEGT Action Plan. EU FLEGT Facility assists the European Commission and the EU Member States in their joint efforts of its implementation. ... [Information of the supplier, modified]
The protection and sustainable development of forests – especially in the tropical and boreal zone – are a central issue of international environmental and forest policy, particular with regard to forest degradation and deterioration caused by land-use dynamics, climate change, air pollution and non-sustainable management practices. The Institute for World Forestry provides scientific contributions to close major knowledge gaps with respect to the interdependency of ecological processes, environmental impacts and forest utilisation, to develop strategies for sustainable forest management, and to provide scientifically sound support for political decision processes. The activities of the institute are focusing on the international context. ... [Information of the supplier]
The aim of the African Blackwood Conservation Project (ABCP) is to help replenish this valuable tree in Tanzania. Most people will not have knowingly seen blackwood but almost everyone will have heard it, for it is the premier wood of choice for fine concert-quality woodwind instruments such as clarinets, oboes and flutes, as well as being used in the manufacture of bagpipes. Blackwood is also the finest material available today for producing ornamental turning. In its African homeland, it is used to make intricate and highly detailed carvings, and plays a vital role in the ecology of the East African savannah. ... [Information of the supplier]

We are people who care about – and for – forests. American Forests, the oldest national nonprofit conservation organization in the country, advocates for the protection and expansion of America’s forests. Since 1990, we have planted nearly 40 million trees. We restore watersheds to help provide clean drinking water. We replant forests destroyed by human action and by natural disasters. Our work is guided by science: choosing the right mix of trees for particular locations, the best trees to act as windbreaks or to filter water, the trees that will provide wildlife habitat, or are most suitable for city streets and parks. Our advocacy is also guided by science: keeping policymakers informed about how trees interact with climate, sequester carbon, manage water, and benefit cities. We explain that ecological services from trees and forests have real economic value. We work in and advocate for federal, state, and urban forests, and sometimes our work takes us beyond US borders. Our hundreds of diverse projects have included: (a) Planting jack pine trees in Michigan’s Huron-Manistee National Forest to restore summer habitat for the endangered Kirtland’s warbler. (b) Restoring Cuyamaca Rancho State Park near San Diego after 95 percent of it was destroyed in a 2003 fire so hot that it killed the seeds that would have allowed the forest to regrow naturally. (c) Planting ponderosa pines and Douglas firs to help Colorado recover after a 2002 fire known as the Hayman Burn destroyed over 135,000 acres, including 8,000 acres surrounding the Chessman Reservoir, which supplies water to Denver. (d) Planting native trees in Michoacán, Mexico, to provide winter habitat for migrating monarch butterflies. ... [Information of the supplier]

The Forest Plots Database was designed to provide a permanent repository for forest inventory data. The objectives of the database are: to enable network participants to access and manage their data online in a secure environment; to integrate and standardize forest plot data, to promote data sharing among the scientific community; and, to provide access to publicly available forest inventory data. The database is a web-accessible secure repository, collected as part of the RAINFOR, AFRITRON and TROBIT networks. If you are interested in becoming a user and having access to publicly available plots of the Forest Plots Database please email the admin. ... [Information of the supplier, modified]
