The editorial staff of the respective research institutes is responsible for the text content in “forestknowledge.net”. Each editorial office compiles expert information, edits it and then presents it on the web-portal. So called expert advisory boards, which are composed of at least two scientists, depending on the subject, guarantee the quality of the contributions. ... [Information of the supplier]
The Forest Ecosystems Research Center (Forschungszentrum Waldökosysteme or FZW) is part of the Forest Faculty of the University of Göttingen and carries out research into structural dynamics and element recycling processes in sylvan ecosystems as well as into the adaptability of forests in the face of environmental change. This includes study of the interaction between the ecosystems and their environment and the new types of forest damage. Last not least, these investigations also lead to an appraisal of commercial feasibility. The aim is to find out under which conditions sustainable forest management is possible. These conditions include natural factors such as climate and soil development as well as human factors such as the use of biomass and atmospheric pollution. Thus the Research Center studies the effects of atmospheric element deposition and forest management on sylvan ecosystems as well as the effects element outflow has on the environment of these ecosystems. An analysis of cause and effect is a condition for establishing critical loads and taking suitable measures for the stabilisation of sylvan ecosystems. Only in this way can detrimental environmental effects - such as on ground water - be avoided and sustainable forest management implemented. The Forest Ecosystems Research Center co-ordinates and integrates a number of different projects on this subject and supports close co-operation with institutions not belonging to the University. Activities include the organisation of conferences and the establishment of contacts with institutes and scientists. ... [Information of the supplier]
Our forests and woods can contribute so much to our nation. We deliver practical programmes to make sure that, as communities and individuals, we can get the most from them. Our responsibilities span research, commercial timber production, sustainability programmes and policy, as well as learning and leisure. Our goal is always to ensure that, at a practical level, Britain can use its forests to contribute positively to as many of the nation's needs as we can while sustaining this great resource for the future. ... ... [Information des Anbieters]
The dry forest is currently the most threatened of the Caledonian biomes. It is truly the heart of the Caledonian ecosystems, which are known world wide for their exceptional biodiversity. The terms “dry forest” or “sclerophyllous forest” are given to forest formations that develop in a dry climate (less than 1100mm of rain per year). In comparison, the rest of the island of Grande Terre receives about 2500mm of rain per year. The Caledonian dry forests are found on the west end of New Caledonia and extend to up to 300 meters à 400m above the coast. They are often found on sedimentary rock, and occasionally on basaltic rock. For about six months each year, they are subject to a dry season with drying trade winds. ... ... [Information des Anbieters]
The German campaign concept "Forest Heritage" will, in the International Year of Forests 2011, contribute to showing people the complexity of the relationships between humans and forests. Both the influence of forests on our society and way of life and the influence of our society on forests are to be made clear. ... [Information of the supplier, translated]
