The Müritz National Park (Total area: 322 km²) in Germany represents a typical part of the wood and lakeland district of Mecklenburg. There are 107 lakes more than an hectare in size in the National Park and many ponds within the forests. With an area of 117 m² the Müritz is the second largest lake in Germany. The Lower Oder Valley National Park is the twelth German National Park. Right from the beginning it was planned to be part of a German-Polish nature conservation project. This project embraces the whole lower Oder valley with a length of 60 kilometres from Hohensaaten (in Germany) to the gates of the town Szczecin (in Poland). The volunteer organization Sharkproject is fighting on the very frontlines against the destruction of the seas and the extermination of sharks. Founded in 2002 by twelve people committed to protection of the seas, today the organization is one of the most active and largest shark protection organizations worldwide.
