The Biodiversity Library Exhibition (BLE) is a virtual exhibition of the digital content in the Biodiversity Heritage Library for Europe. It is a dissemination tool which highlights specific biodiversity content and makes it accessible for a wider audience. The first two exhibitions will feature BHL-Europe’s content on “spices” and “expeditions”, presenting beautiful illustrations and informative text in old and rare books. It will also provide useful information for the visitor, e.g. recipes. The attractive design and easy to use interface of BLE has a great potential to show that historical literature on biodiversity can be interesting to a wide audience. ... System also contains (or in some cases rather 'will contain') gallery of images connected with records in the species database, database of biological terms, list of literature and links about nature, checklists, language dictionary of species, articles and so on. Project BioLib allows anyone who wants to help to insert data into its databases. After registration the user is allowed to add images, links, write image descriptions, add terms to biological dictionary or texts to species. The aim of the Czech National Phytosociological Database is to gather computerized phytosociological information (vegetation relevés) from the territory of the Czech Republic in a large database that will facilitate easy access to relevant data for the purposes of vegetation surveys, mapping etc. These activities are a part of wider European projects co-ordinated by the Working Group for European Vegetation Survey of the International Association for Vegetation Science, e.g. SynBioSys. The data are stored in the TURBOVEG database management program by S.M. Hennekens which is a European standard software for phytosociological databases. The Czech National Phytosociological Database is co-ordinated from the Department of Botany, Masaryk University, Brno, with several local co-ordinators in other institutes, namely in the Institute of Botany, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The co-ordinator of the database is Milan Chytry. An integral part of the database project is the development of methods for data analysis. Major procedures developed so far are available in JUICE software by Lubomir Tichy. ... [Information of the supplier]

By the middle of the 19th century, lynxes had completely disappeared from Bavaria. It is due to an approved release of 17 lynxes (between 1982-1987) in the area of today’s Šumava National Park that lynxes again populate the Bavarian-Bohemian border area. The two national parks (Bavarian Forest and Šumava) currently represent the core lynx habitat, and the centre from which the animals are spreading to new areas. It is the priority objective of our project to collect current data on lynxes and their use of territory, and on the relationship between the predator and its large animals of prey – roe and red deer – within a large mountain forest ecosystem left mainly to nature. The data collection will to be carried out with the assistance of the latest communication technology in accordance with animal protection laws, and without disturbing the animals in their natural habitat. ...
