The Asia branch of the Orchid Specialist Group is a network of individuals and organisations based in (or with an interest in) one of the countries or territories of the region (Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, North Korea, Philippines, People’s Republic of China, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam) who actively dedicate their time and technical expertise towards improved understanding of Asia’s native orchids and the practical means by which their conservation status may be ameliorated. Our members include scientists, government officers, business people, land managers and non-professional experts who together strive to achieve the vision of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, namely, “A world that values and conserves present levels of biodiversity”. We recognise the significant impacts the prevailing threats of the region have on native orchid populations - in particular, the degradation and fragmentation of orchid habitats associated with urbanisation and the expansion of agriculture and plantation forestry, and the targeted collection of wild orchids to supply the horticultural and medicinal plant trades. ...
