The proposed theme of the Conference will be “Bears and humans in the 21st century: challenges and solutions for a peaceful coexistence”. With this theme we aim to draw attention to the problems bears are facing in Greece, and hopefully garner public interest and support for their effective solution. The Conference theme is also representative of one of the major challenges for bears around the world: in midst of an enduring global financial crisis, national economies are reshaping and restructuring themselves in order to become more competitive and resilient in the new world of the 21st century. These structural changes have significant effects on the conservation of global biodiversity, including bears. From the effects of global warming on polar bears to the problems arising from bears living in the proximity of humans in Europe and North America, all bear species are affected by the new realities of the 21st century. Identifying these conflicts in a world that is changing rapidly will be the major step towards finding the solutions that will ultimately secure the survival of these species on a world-wide scale. The 23rd International Conference on Bear Research and Management aims to be a forerunner in this process by providing a meeting point and becoming the public outlet for the most experienced specialists in the field of bear research, conservation and management. ... The Dutch Elasmobranch Society is pleased to host the 21st Annual European Elasmobranch Association Scientific Conference from 12-14 October in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We hope to meet you at a stimulating conference where the latest and greatest in elasmobranch research will be presented. In keeping with the EEA’s role of providing an interface between science and policy, we have chosen as an underlying theme for this year’s meeting:“The science you need for the policy you want” Conference sessions will cover: perspectives for spatial management; movement ecology; coherence in international legislation and policy; selectivity, survival, and discards of elasmobranchs in fisheries; and elasmobranch husbandry. We are proud to announce that Dr. Neil Hammerschlag, Dr. Robert Hueter, and Dr. Kim Friedman will be keynote speakers at the Conference. The three-day conference will be held at the grand building of the KIT Royal Tropical Institute, only a stone’s throw away from the city center with all its famous historical sites and landmarks, and within walking distance from the Amsterdam Zoo and several beautifully landscaped parks. Amsterdam is a popular destination in Autumn, so we advice everyone to make travel arrangements as soon as possible, as prices may rise over the summer. ... [Information of the supplier]
Mapping the link between phenotype and genotype is at the heart of genetics, breeding and natural evolution. High throughput analyses of omic data provide the basis for understanding the complex genetic architecture underlying many different phenotypes, including disease, pathogen or parasite interactions, economic traits as well as traits that are important for natural evolution or nature conservation. This exciting conference brings together the newest insights and developments and serves as a networking place for early career students up to group leaders! ... [Information of the supplier]

The field of immunometabolism has thrived over the last decade, revealing not only the major roles played by immune cells in metabolic homeostasis but also the impact of metabolic pathways on immune cell function. As new discoveries continue to reveal the intricate links between immunology and metabolism, a key question arises: will our accumulated knowledge on immunometabolic deregulations translate into novel therapies for human diseases? During this Cell Symposium, you will hear about the latest advances in immunometabolism from physician-scientists, basic researchers and industry leaders. We will discuss how local and systemic metabolism are integrated at the cellular level to regulate immune cell function and we will focus on how novel insights into immunometabolism can be harnessed to advance and/or bolster therapeutic interventions in metabolic diseases, inflammation, autoimmunity, and cancer. ... Over the 4 days of the conference there will be plenary and parallel sessions focusing on all facets of core facility operations, management and specific technologies of interest to core facility staff. Keynote talks will be given by 2001 Nobel laureate Paul Nurse and by Frances Weis-Garcia (President of ABRF). Poster sessions will be held to allow core scientists to present new developments in their technologies and a core facility marketplace area will also be available for facilities to promote their expertise and services. A Belgian beer tasting, guided boat trip through the city's canals and conference dinner in the old fish market will highlight the social program. CTLS2018@VIB aims to offer core facility staff and those interested in careers as expert scientists an opportunity to learn, network and forge alliances to strengthen core facility science throughout Europe. ...
