Seit dem Erscheinen des achtbändigen Werkes „Die Farn- und Blütenpflanzen Baden-Württembergs“ (Hrsg. Sebald, Seybold, Philippi, Wörz; 1990 - 1998) ist die gründliche Erfassung der baden-württembergischen Flora weiter fortgeschritten. Um diesen Fortschritt der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen, haben wir die Verbreitungskarten aktualisiert und im Internet als pdf-Dateien zur Verfügung gestellt. Es wurden im Vergleich zu den Grundlagenwerken neu aufgefundene Arten (z.B. Dorycnium herbaceum) berücksichtigt sowie manche Klein- und Unterarten (z.B. Pastinaca sativa subsp. sativa/urens) neu aufgenommen. Andere, in den Grundlagenwerken noch unvollständig kartierte Arten wurden ergänzt, z. B. Corydalis intermedia oder Pulmonaria officinalis s. str. oder Neueinwanderer wie Senecio inaequidens. This list is produced by the North American Classification Committee (NACC), an official committee of the American Ornithologists' Union. The geographic area covered includes North and Central America from the North Pole to the boundary of Panama and Colombia, including the adjacent islands under the jurisdiction of the included nations; the Hawaiian Islands; Clipperton Island; Bermuda; The West Indies, including the Bahama Islands, the Greater Antilles, Leeward and Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles (ending with Grenada); and Swan, Providencia, and San Andrés Islands in the Gulf of Mexico. This atlas explores the continental-scale relations between the geographic ranges of woody plant species and climate in North America. A 25-km equal-area grid of modern climatic and bioclimatic parameters was constructed from instrumental weather records. The geographic distributions of selected tree and shrub species were digitized, and the presence or absence of each species was determined for each cell on the 25-km grid, thus providing a basis for comparing climatic data and species' distributions. The relations between climate and plant distributions are explored in graphical and tabular form. The results of this effort are primarily intended for use in biogeographic, paleoclimatic, and global-change research. The University of Pittsburgh is fortunate to own one of the rare, complete sets of John James Audubon’s Birds of America. It is considered to be the single most valuable set of volumes in the collections of the University Library System (ULS). Indeed, only 120 complete sets are known to exist. While Audubon was creating Birds of America, he was also working on a companion publication, namely, his Ornithological Biography. Both of these sets were acquired by William M. Darlington in the mid-nineteenth century and later donated, as part of his extensive library, to the University of Pittsburgh. Recognizing that the Darlington Library includes significant historical materials, such as rare books, maps, atlases, illustrations, and manuscripts, the ULS charted an ambitious course to digitize a large portion of Mr. Darlington’s collection, including the Birds of America.
