uBio is an initiative within the science library community to join international efforts to create and utilize a comprehensive and collaborative catalog of names of all living (and once-living) organisms. The Taxonomic Name Server (TNS) catalogs names and classifications to enable tools that can help users find information on living things using any of the names that may be related to an organism. (...) uBio provides access to the Taxonomic Name Service via SOAP. SOAP allows users to access uBio data as if it were a local resource. For example, a library may have a database of fish pictures it serves. Users may query by name to find pictures. The developer of this system could use NameBank to access additional names that can be used to ensure than name queries find the pictures even if the name wasn't originally attached to the picture. ... In two centuries of American ornithology, The Birds of North America (BNA) is only the fourth comprehensive reference covering the life histories of North American birds. This series provides detailed scientific for each of the 716 species of birds nesting in the USA and Canada. The print version of BNA was completed in 2002. Now as an online project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, BNA is poised to become a living resource. BNA Online will build image and video galleries showing behaviors, habitat, nests, eggs and nestlings. BNA Online offers subscriptions for individuals using a single user name and password. ... ... [Redaktion vifabio]

A database is a model of a piece of the world. RegulonDB in this sense is a model of the complex regulation of transcription initiation or regulatory network of the cell, on the one hand. On the other hand, it is also a model of the organization of the genes in transcription units, operons and simple and complex regulons. In this sense, RegulonDB is a computational model of mechanisms of transcriptional regulation. ... [Information of the supplier]
Saccharomyces Genome Database is a scientific database of the molecular biology and genetics of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which is commonly known as baker's or budding yeast. (...) SGD contains the sequences of yeast genes and proteins; descriptions and classifications of their biological roles, molecular functions, and subcellular localizations; links to literature information; links to functional genomics datasets; and tools for analysis and comparison of sequences. The SGD Home page is the main entry point for the database. SGD is aimed at scientists; collected information about yeast for the non-scientist can be found at the Yeast Virtual Library. SGD does not collect medical information, and SGD curators cannot answer health-related questions. ... [Information of the supplier]
Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI) provides integrated access to data on the genetics, genomics, and biology of the laboratory mouse. The projects contributing to this resource are: (1) Mouse Genome Database (MGD) Project; (2) Gene Expression Database (GXD) Project; (3) Mouse Tumor Biology (MTB) Database Project; (4) Gene Ontology (GO) Project. ...
