The Swedish Species Information Centre works with knowledge about biodiversity in Sweden. The main tasks are to collect, evaluate and store the most important information about threatened and rare plant and animal species. A basic part in this work is to assess degrees and types of threat and to prepare the national so called Red Lists and Red Data Books. Much the work is focused on information through publications, conferences etc. The unit also suggests management plans and initiate research. ... [Information of the supplier]
This checklist comprises the vascular plants of Northern Europe (including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Faeroe Islands and Denmark, but excluding Greenland), with the flora of Sweden being covered more completely than the floras of the other territories. For each taxon, the scientific and Swedish names as well as its floristic status are given; in addition to indigenous plants, archaeophytes and neophytes are included as well, with many casually occurring taxa. An earlier version of the list comprising more than 8,000 taxa has been published as a journal contribution in 1998 (Karlsson, T.: Förteckning över svenska kärlväxter. [The vascular plants of Sweden - a checklist. In Swedish, with English abstract.] In: Svensk Botanisk Tidskrift 91: 241-560). ... [Editorial staff vifabio]
This checklist is intended as a nomenclatural rectifier, to give an overview of the distribution of the species and as a basis for future work with nomenclature and typification. All species reported from Sweden and not definitely dismissed by later authors are included. Thus, the fact that a taxon is included here does not mean that it has been accepted by me. ... Flora Nordica is a research project with the aim to produce a scientifically based flora of the vascular plants in northern Europe. This flora should be a synthesis of previous research, indicating problems which should be considered in future research; it will comprise 15 volumes (3 published so far) and is written in English. Flora Nordica treats all vascular plants (native or alien) wild-growing in Norden (map), i.e. Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway (incl. Svalbard and Jan Mayen) and Sweden. Botanists from all Nordic countries participate, both professionals and amateurs; among the many authors and reviewers are also several specialists from abroad. We welcome more participants. ... DG Fisheries And Maritime Affairs is the Directorate-General responsible for the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and for developing a future maritime policy for the EU at the European Commission. The CFP covers all fishing activities, the farming of living aquatic resources, and the processing and marketing of fisheries products, on the legal basis of Article 33 (ex 39) of the Treaty establishing the European Community. Since the first decisions adopted in 1970, the CFP has been through many changes, and its current form centres on four main areas: the conservation and management of marine resources, fisheries relations and agreements with non-member countries and international organisations, structural measures, and the common market organisation for fishery and aquaculture products. The major challenge facing the CFP today is to strike a sustainable balance between available marine resources and their exploitation. ... [Information of the supplier]
The Gentian Research Network is a free, not-for-profit, web-based forum for worldwide research on the natural history and evolution of the flowering plant family Gentianaceae (gentians). Here you will find information on current research projects in the Gentianaceae, focusing on their systematics, evolution, molecular systematics, classification (Struwe et al. 2002 or most current), ecology, biogeography, endangered species, biodiversity, distribution, anatomy, morphology, palynology, ethnobotany, and nomenclature. We also have a link to a large reference list, floristic works, images, research projects, and contact information for researchers and photographers. Gentian species occur around the world and have many different names, for example: centaury, çentiyane, chirayta, chirata, and chiretta, Encian, Enzian, fever tree, genciana, gentian, gentiane, genziane, long dan ke, pua keni keni, rindo, and tembusu. Gentians are gorgeous and have been used for millenia in horticulture, as medicines, and are also important in ecosystems as food sources for butterflies, nectar sources for pollinators, and many other functions. ...
