Euro+Med PlantBase ("the information resource for euro-mediterranean plant diversity") provides an on-line database and information system for the vascular plants of Europe and the Mediterranean region, against an up-to-date and critically evaluated consensus taxonomic core of the species concerned. After several years of planning, the project is now firmly underway. The first stage of the project (referred to as Phase One) has been financed for three years by the European Union under Framework V. This database is constantly expanded and improved. Already in 2009, EuroMed provides three of the largest families: Compositae (Asteraceae, sunflower family) Poaceae (Gramineae, grass family) Rosaceae (rose family); and the following smaller families: Alismataceae, Aponogetonaceae, Basellaceae, Butomaceae, Cabombaceae, Chenopodiaceae (only tribus Salicornieae), Corylaceae, Elatinaceae, Geraniaceae, Haloragaceae, Hippuridacae, Hydrocharitaceae Juncaginaceae Lemnaceae Lilaeaceae Myricaceae Najadaceae, Nelumbonaceae, Nymphaeaceae, Posidoniaceae, Potamogetonaceae, Proteaceae, Ruppiaceae, Scheuchzeriaceae, Sparganiaceae, Tetragoniaceae, Zannichelliaceae, Zosteraceae, Zygophyllaceae. Common names were not yet available in all languages. By April 2015 Euro+Med Plantbase provided access to 190 plant families, corresponding to ca. 95 % of the European flora of vascular plants. ... The programme PROTA is an initiative of Wageningen University, Netherlands. In cooperation with institutes in Africa and Europe, the programme intends to survey, compile, edit, publish and disseminate existing knowledge on some 7000 useful plants of Tropical Africa. (...) The PROTA databank is the basic output of the programme which will ultimately comprise: 6,000-8,000 newly made review articles on the useful plants of Tropical Africa following a standardized format; a unified literature list with an estimated 200,000 references; an estimated 15,000 photographs and drawings; 2,500 geographic distribution maps. ... The database currently comprises 185773 names of african plants with their nomenclatural statuts (as of April, 2010). Data capture, edition and broadcast are the product of a collaboration between the South African National Biodiversity Institute, the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève, Tela Botanica and the Missouri Botanical Garden. Data are based on different sources for Tropical Africa (J.-P. Lebrun & A. L. Stork 1991-2010. Enumération des plantes à fleurs d'Afrique tropicale et Tropical African Flowering Plants: Ecology and Distribution, vol. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in prep. Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève), Southern Africa (G. Germisuizen & N.L. Meyer, eds, 2003. Plants of Southern Africa: an annotated checklist Pretoria), North Africa (Dobignard, A. & C. Chatelain 2010-2011. Synonymic and bibliographic index of North Africa plants. vol.1 Monocots, vol. 2 & 3 in prep.), and Madagascar (Catalogue of the Vascular Plants of Madagascar. Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis). Data are updated on a regular basis, following the literature. ... [Information of the supplier, modified]
The aim of this project is to develop a better understanding of the structure and homeostatic function of termite mounds, with a view to identifying any lessons which can be learned, and ultimately applied, in human construction and habitation. This, in turn, will lead to a clearer definition of future research directions aimed at delivering some form of homeostasis for human constructions (for example, buildings which are self-regulating and requiring few or no mechanical services systems, and hence much-reduced energy usage). ... Although these literature searches were originally conceived as providing working documents for our own researches, it soon became apparent that this comprehensive catalogue of literature and illustrations should be made generally available rapidly and freely as a working tool for all those interested in working on Trichoptera material from Africa, especially for colleagues in far-distant institutes and without access to large libraries. Each page will record the name of the species, its distribution, the best illustrations of its diagnostic characters available in the literature, usually of genital structures, and the appropriate original literature. This bibliographic reference work containing over 1200 species and subspecies in 26 families and 109 genera makes no claim to be complete. The clarification of problematic systematic questions or synonyms was also not one of its aims. ... [Information of the supplier]

BIOTA AFRICA has been jointly invented by African and German researchers aiming at the establishment of research supporting sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity in Africa. While, initially, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) was open to fund the initiative, meanwhile several African countries and partner institutions added funding. The project, from its beginning, had a very visible continent-wide dimension and is still expanding especially with regard to its role as a "Biodiversity Observation Network" on the African continent. ...
