The literature database of the vegetation ecology of central Europe of the Braunschweig University Library is a current database in which scientific publications about the flora and vegetation of Central Europe are indexed. Until now, the focus has been on Germany; indexing of the relevant publications for Austria, Switzerland, Northern Italy, and Slovenia is planned. The adjacent areas are also taken into consideration in the selection. Currently ca. 11000 publications have been indexed whereby the data are continually updated and expanded. A special feature of the database is that scientists who are active in this area can themselves enter records of their publications into the database via the World Wide Web. Their entries are stored directly in the database and are then immediately searchable worldwide. ... [Information of the supplier, translated]
... ... This conference discusses fundamental questions of evolution and ecology. It explores the use of model organisms amenable to experimental studies of evolution and ecology. It focuses on unicellular eukaryotic systems, but contains examples from other organisms. [Information of the supplier]
The guiding theme of the 45th Annual Meeting is "Ecology for a Sustainable Future". Along the lines of this guiding theme, we will stimulate scientific discussions on basic and applied ecological topics as well as on nature conservation and management. Special focus will be given to: Species, populations and ecosystems (e.g. interactions, competition, adaption, survival, community assembly, past and current pattern, all types of ecosystems); ecosystem functioning (e.g. ecosystem services, processes and functions, ecological dynamics); global change effects (e.g. climate change, land use change, nutrient deposition, invasive species, mitigation, effects on biodiversity); impact of land use (biodiversity, ecosystem functions, restoration ecology, sustainable land management); conservation approaches (e.g. linking ecological knowledge to nature conservation, environmental education, sustainability, community conservation, socio-ecological approaches, policy advice). ... In the year 1866 Ernst Haeckel introduced the term “Ecology”. The guiding theme of the 46th Annual Meeting is therefore "150 years of ecology – lessons for the future". The overarching aim of the conference is to stimulate a critical assessment of the status quo of the different disciplines of ecology. At the same time and taking into account the latest developments in ecological research we will address the following questions: Where are we? What have we learned? What are the gaps? What are the challenges for the future? We aim to present an outstanding and interesting program covering the diversity of ecological research. ... [Information of the supplier]
We are pleased to announce that the "European Conference of Tropical Ecology" and the Annual Conference of the Society for Tropical Ecology (Gesellschaft für Tropenökologie, gtö) in 2016 will be hosted by the University of Göttingen and the German Primate Center (www.gtoe-2016.de). Located near the geographical center of Europe, Göttingen is the right place for a European conference. The overarching topic will be "Tropical diversity, ecology and land use", reflecting the broad spectrum of tropical research in Göttingen on one hand and the need for integrating research and land use practices in the tropics. The conference will take place from Tuesday 23 to Friday 26 February 2016, at the Faculty of Geoscience and Geography of the University of Göttingen. It will provide a forum for the scientific exchange between tropical ecologists at all levels of their career, for the personal interaction in a friendly and international atmosphere and for establishing new contacts and cooperation. We particularly encourage students and young scientists to participate in this event. Contributions from all fields within tropical ecology are welcome. ... [Information of the supplier]
Both ecology and evolution try to understand the diversity of life, including the diversity of species, their genetic inventory, the diversity of functions, interactions and communities; how species and communities evolve, expand, and demise. Many new ideas and methodological approaches are currently developed where these two disciplines merge, both at the level of micro- and macroevolution. Examples are the evolution of biodiversity hotspots, the impact of climate change on distribution and evolutionary adaptation, or adaptive population genomics. We aim at highlighting recent achievements in evolutionary ecology, their impact on phylogenetics and biodiversity research, and vice versa. Confirmed invited speakers are: Alexandre Antonelli (Göteborg), Christoph Bleidorn (Madrid), Erika Edwards (Providence, Rhode Island), Susanne Fritz (Frankfurt), Catherine Graham (New York), Christian Lexer (Vienna), Susanne Renner (Munich), Marten Winter (Leipzig). Poster presentations by students and postdocs are welcome. The deadline for abstract submission is September 15, 2016. Please submit your abstracts to Martin Schlegel. Please register online. Registration for this symposium is free of charge. We hope to see you soon here in Leipzig! ... [Information of the supplier]
