Originally launched in 2001 and updated in 2007, the PBS Evolution Web site is intended to serve as a comprehensive learning resource about evolutionary science for teachers, students and the general public. The site was originally developed in conjunction with an eight-hour television series co-produced by the NOVA Science Unit at WGBH Boston and Clear Blue Sky Productions (now Vulcan Productions). It is designed to function both as a free stand-alone resource and as a companion to the full-length video programs, which are no longer being broadcast on PBS but are available on DVD. The site has four major components: 7 main topic areas that align closely with the seven programs in the video series. A searchable multimedia library with assets organized along lines that correspond with curriculum topics often taught in high school biology. This collection includes assets from other sources as well as from this site. Professional development resources to help science educators develop effective, yet sensitive ways to teach these topics amid the intense debate about the validity of evolutionary theory. Seven short videos designed expressly to stimulate informed discussion in the classroom. ... [Information of the supplier]
NESCent’s scientific mission is to advance synthetic research that addresses fundamental questions in evolutionary biology. Synthetic research in evolutionary biology occurs along a continuum in terms of the scope of the scientific questions, tools and disciplines that may be involved. At one end of the continuum, synthesis involves integrating available data and models to address important problems within a discipline. At the other end, methods and perspectives from multiple disciplines are combined to develop new tools for answering - and creating new - fundamental scientific questions. ... The portal www.darwin-jahr.de is operated by the “Darwin Year Committee” of the Giordano Bruno Stiftung and the AG Evolutionsbiologie in VBIO (Association for Biology, Bioscience, and Biomedicine). It has gathered, during the Darwin Year 2009 (200th birthday of Charles Darwin, 150th anniversary of the first publication of his main work dealing with the origin of species) numerous articles, current reports, and event dates in German-speaking regions. ... Darwin Rocks! connects music and evolution. It wants to inspire you to think a bit about evolution. And mainly it wants you to have fun. The project consists of a computer program, a video clip, and this website. [Information of the supplier]
The Darwin Digital Library of Evolution is based at the American Museum of Natural History Library. The goal of this undertaking is to make the full literature of evolution available online within a historically and topically coherent structure. The work of Charles Robert Darwin is our pivot, but our framework includes the 17th century to the present and encompasses the history of evolution as a scientific theory with deep roots and broad cultural consequences. DDLE is a pilot project drawing on resources of members of the Biodiversity Heritage Library Consortium1 contributions are included from the Natural History Museum (London) and the Missouri Botanical Garden. ... “The Panda’s Thumb” is many things… First, it is an example of jury-rigged evolutionary adaptation made famous by the late Stephen Jay Gould in an essay of the same name. Second, it is the legendary virtual bar serving the community of the legendary virtual University of Ediacara somewhere in the Ediacaran hills of southern Australia, growing out of the lore of the Usenet talk.origins newsgroup. And now it is a weblog giving another voice for the defenders of the integrity of science, the patrons of “The Panda’s Thumb”. Much as in any tavern serving a university community, you can expect to hear a variety of levels of discussion, ranging from the picayune to the pedantic. The authors are people associated with the virtual University of Ediacara (and thus the talk.origins newsgroup), and various web sites critical of the antievolution movement, such as the TalkOrigins Archive, TalkDesign, and Antievolution.org. ... One of the main objectives of the natural history museums is an authentic presentation of science. Therefore, they vehemently reject all varieties of fundamentalism and over interpretation of scientific findings for ideological ends. On this blogsite we wish to offer information and comments about the programme of events of the German natural history museums and their partners. You will find the events programme under www.darwinjahr2009.de. Other information is given in the first blog entry. ... [Information of the supplier, translated]
The EvolDir is directed toward evolutionary biologists, population biologists and scientists in related areas. Reminder: the preferred use of EvolDir is for bulletins not discussions (for the latter see the USENET/Google groups). [Information of the supplier]
In 2008, it came to my attention that despite evolution's importance and controversial nature, there was no free source that offered high-quality, easy-to-understand evolution education. You either had to pay for a textbook (which was probably hard to understand anyway) or you had to go to some website that doesn't do a particularly good job, or assumes that you know a lot about science. I wanted to do something about this problem. In February of 2009, I published EvoEdu. Here, the theory of evolution is presented in a way that's actually easy to understand. Everything on the site is free, and nothing will talk down to you. ... [Information of the supplier, modified]
