This conference discusses fundamental questions of evolution and ecology. It explores the use of model organisms amenable to experimental studies of evolution and ecology. It focuses on unicellular eukaryotic systems, but contains examples from other organisms. [Information of the supplier]
We are delighted to invite you to Sfécologie 2018, the French Ecological and Evolution Society's International Conference that will take place in October 2018 (22nd - 25th). The 2018 conference will be hosted in Rennes, at the historic Couvent des Jacobins, in the old part of the city of Rennes, ensuring convenient public transportation for the attendees. This conference usually hosts 900-1000 participants, and covers all aspects of ecology and evolution. In addition to an excellent scientific line-up, we are also planning an evening excursion to the beautiful Unesco heritage site in nearby Mont-Saint Michel. So, we hope you can join us for a wonderful week in France! ... [Information of the supplier]
Following the successful inaugural conference in 2016, the 2019 Species on the Move conference will be held in Kruger National Park from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th July 2019. The conference brings together scientists and natural resource managers working in the disciplines of global change, biogeography and evolution, and relevant in contexts of natural resource management, biodiversity management and conservation, and theoretical ecology. ... This is the third iteration of the SOTM (Species on the Move) series. 2016 was held in Tasmania and 2019 in South Africa. SOTM 2023 is being hosted by the University of Florida in Everglades National Park, Florida, USA. On behalf of the 2023 Conference Convenors and Conference Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to Everglades National Park. The conference will be held from May 15-19, 2023. The conference brings together scientists and natural resource managers working in the disciplines of global change, biogeography and evolution, and relevant in contexts of natural resource management, biodiversity management and conservation, and theoretical ecology. Species response to climate change is a rapidly evolving research field, however, much of our progress is being made in independent research areas: e.g. understanding the process vs responding to the implications, terrestrial vs marine ecosystems, global meta-analyses vs in depth species-specific approaches. This interdisciplinary conference develops connections between these parallel themes, and across temporal and spatial scales. ... [Information of the supplier, modified]
Understanding Evolution is a non-commercial, education website, teaching the science and history of evolutionary biology. This site is here to help you understand what evolution is, how it works, how it factors into your life, how research in evolutionary biology is performed, and how ideas in this area have changed over time. ... The twin goals of the MSU Digital Evolution Laboratory are to experimentally study digital organisms to improve our understanding of how natural evolution works, and then to apply this knowledge to solving computational problems. Much of the work in the Devolab is centered on research with and the continued development of the Avida digital evolution research platform. In Avida, a population of self-replicating computer programs is subjected to external pressures (such as mutations and limited resources) and allowed to evolve subject to natural selection. ... The Adaptive Evolution Database (TAED) consists of 4,294 higher plant and 15,452 chordate gene families. For each of these families, multiple sequence alignments, phylogenetic trees, ratios of nonsynonymous to synonymous nucleotide substitution rates (Ka/Ks), mappings from gene trees to the NCBI taxonomy (mapped only to the most recent branch possible), and structural links to solved three dimensional protein structures in PDB with Grantham-weighted mutational factors were all calculated. The gene families themselves can be accessed through the links below. A taxonomic link-in is also available to view all families with Ka/Ks > 1 occurring along the same lineage together with a tie to the appropriate gene families. ... [Information of the supplier]
The most complete collection of Darwin's work ever published - with original page numbers, illustrations etc. A search tool for the entire site or individual works stored in multiple files is provided (...). If scholars are to find digital texts more useful, it must be perfectly clear which historical text is represented and the text must be useable and citable in conventional ways. The texts provided here are an attempt to do so for the writings of Darwin. The site also provides many more Darwin texts than are available anywhere else in fact almost the complete works. ... The origin and development of the diversity of species represents one of the greatest challenges to fundamental research in the whole field of biology. The basic concepts like adaptation or selection are universal and applicable to many different systems, making evolutionary biology the core of a new integrative biology thereby lending fundamental orientation to the modern biosciences. The field has gained new topicality in the genome era, since the sequencing of the genome of many species opens up new windows on a number of issues which have been subject of investigation for a long time. With this funding initiative the Foundation aims at strengthening the field of evolutionary biology in Germany by generating impulses for both research and higher education. The major goal is to anchor the concepts of evolutionary biology in university teaching more firmly, to create attractive career prospects for junior scientists as well as to promote their interaction on a European level. In principle, funding is open to all departments related to the topic. The different elements of the funding scheme – support for PhD students and postdocs, funding of visiting professors and lecturers, or symposia and summer schools – can be combined with one another. Research projects will only be funded in the framework of the support for young academics. ... [Information of the supplier]
Originally launched in 2001 and updated in 2007, the PBS Evolution Web site is intended to serve as a comprehensive learning resource about evolutionary science for teachers, students and the general public. The site was originally developed in conjunction with an eight-hour television series co-produced by the NOVA Science Unit at WGBH Boston and Clear Blue Sky Productions (now Vulcan Productions). It is designed to function both as a free stand-alone resource and as a companion to the full-length video programs, which are no longer being broadcast on PBS but are available on DVD. The site has four major components: 7 main topic areas that align closely with the seven programs in the video series. A searchable multimedia library with assets organized along lines that correspond with curriculum topics often taught in high school biology. This collection includes assets from other sources as well as from this site. Professional development resources to help science educators develop effective, yet sensitive ways to teach these topics amid the intense debate about the validity of evolutionary theory. Seven short videos designed expressly to stimulate informed discussion in the classroom. ... [Information of the supplier]
