GTOS is a programme for observations, modelling, and analysis of terrestrial ecosystems to support sustainable development. GTOS facilitates access to information on terrestrial ecosystems so that researchers and policy makers can detect and manage global and regional environmental change. [Information of the supplier]
... Within the limits of Portuguese activities in the construction of a European protection area system “Natura 2000” the naturally occurring habitats were recorded by the Associação Lusitana de Fitossociologia (ALFA); descriptions were formulated according to the rules of the Instituto de Conservação da Natureza (ICN), which can be downloaded in pdf format. The habitats were divided into the following nine groups: coastal habitats and salt tolerant vegetation, coastal dunes and inland dunes, freshwater habitats, heaths and shrubs of the temperate zones, maquis shrubs, natural and semi-natural herbaceous formations, highland and lowland moors, and swamps, rocky environments, and forests. ... ... The Ecological Society of America (ESA) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of scientists founded in 1915 to promote ecological science by improving communication among ecologists; raise the public's level of awareness of the importance of ecological science; increase the resources available for the conduct of ecological science; and ensure the appropriate use of ecological science in environmental decision making by enhancing communication between the ecological community and policy-makers. Ecology is the scientific discipline that is concerned with the relationships between organisms and their past, present, and future environments. These relationships include physiological responses of individuals, structure and dynamics of populations, interactions among species, organization of biological communities, and processing of energy and matter in ecosystems. ESA's over 10,000 members conduct research, teach, and use ecological science to address environmental issues. ... [Information of the supplier]
The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) promotes education and outreach as part of its mission to increase the public understanding of science. NCEAS developed Kids Do Ecology (KDE) in 1997 as the primary component of its outreach to grade school students. Kids do Ecology includes both this Website and a Scientist in the Classroom Program. The original focus of the KDE program was the development of the web site to teach elementary school students about ecology, experiments, and use of data. The KDE web is frequently reviewed and recommended, and continues to be heavily used in the United States and abroad. School and library web sites, teachers' organizations, scientific organizations, and many other institutions link to it from their web sites. In order to expand the reach of the site and address the needs of Spanish speaking children here in Santa Barbara, as well as nationally, a Spanish language version of the site is available. ... This site is intended to serve as a source for identifying datasets that are useful to the study of ecology and quickly figuring out the best ways to use them. The idea is to use the knowlege and effort of the entire ecological community to compile this information rather than relying on each scientist to contribute information for their own studies. Just think of it as the Wikipedia of ecology data. The site is developed and maintained by Ethan White and has been strongly influenced by input from Zack Brym, Morgan Ernest, and Allen Hurlbert. But this isn't our site, it's everyone's site, and the hope is that decisions will be collectively made by the community of users. ... [Information of the supplier]
Biodiversity Knowledge is an initiative by researchers and practitioners to help all societal actors in the field of biodiversity and ecosystem services to make better informed decisions. In this challenge, we invite you to develop with us an innovation called Network of Knowledge - an open networking approach to boost the knowledge flow between biodiversity knowledge holders and users in Europe. ... The data presented on this website are based on WISIA, the Information System on International Species Conservation (WISIA) maintained by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (Bundesamt für Naturschutz). WISIA-online holds information on the legal status of both animal and plant species under national or international protection. WISIA-online covers those species which are assigned special or strict protetction status by the German Federal Nature Conservation Act (Bundesnaturschutzgesetz). This implies certain legal provisions concerning their import and/or possession. ... [Information of the supplier]
