Transposable elements (or interspersed repeats) account for a substantial portion of eukaryotic genomes. Accurate annotation of TEs enables research into their biology and can shed light on the evolutionary processes that shape genomes. HEXEvent is a free database that provides a list of human internal exons and reports all their known splice events based on EST information from the UCSC Genome Browser . In addition, studies using high throughput technologies at the cellular and organismal levels are poised to answer how accurate replication of the genome is ensured by controlling origin firing in space and time.
