The German network for long term ecological research is intended to be a platform for communication, documentation and collaboration of scientists in long-term, system-oriented and interdisciplinary environmental research in Germany. LTER-D is a member in the international umbrella organisation of LTER (ILTER, www.ilternet.edu). It is an open network, which defines itself exclusively by the commitment of the members to their shared goals. Long-term approaches are particularly important in investigations of environmental changes, because such changes usually occur only gradually and with larger temporal fluctuations overlying the trend. Under such circumstances, only an adequately long observation period can be a sound basis to secure results and to support prognoses. The German LTER is still in the starting phase. The first workshop for mutual information and orientation was held in Duderstadt, central Germany, 24-26 March 2004. At this meeting, scientists from the institutions in Germany, which perform long-term ecological research in all relevant ecosystem types from the high mountains to the Wadden Sea, presented their concepts and results. The diversity, quality and potential of German LTER showed up clearly, and in future it will be further augmented by integrating LTER-D into the global ILTER-process. ... BioLib is non-profit project that can be used as an educational tool. The purpose of this project is to collect biological information and present it to public both professional or just nature lovers. Our first task is to create list of animals, plants and fungi species of Czech Republic, this is about 70 to 90 thousand species. System also contains (or in some cases rather 'will contain') gallery of images connected with records in the species database, database of biological terms, list of literature and links about nature, checklists, language dictionary of species, articles and so on. Project BioLib allows anyone who wants to help to insert data into its databases. After registration the user is allowed to add images, links, write image descriptions, add terms to biological dictionary or texts to species. The submitted data is of course revised before added to database. The purpose of BioLib is to create system that helps people to find as much resources on subject they are interested in as possible, not just in data contained in databases, but also giving them list of links and literature on this subject. ... Publish your observations of nature here and thereby give nature protection more material with which to argue. ... [Information of the supplier, translated]
... Over the last 20 years, biodiversity research has been established and shaped as a young interdisciplinary research field. In light of the global biodiversity crisis, however, this research is under pressure related to time and expectations and investments are necessary. The German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since October 1, 2012, and will become a hub for biodiversity research. The German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) concentrates expertise across city and state borders, brings together top scientists, connects theoreticians and empiricists of manifold research fields, focuses on theory and synthesis (synthesis centre sDiv), educates a new generation of scientists in transdisciplinary biodiversity research (graduate school yDiv) and communicates the importance of safeguarding biodiversity. ...
