The Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants - Julius Kühn Institute (JKI) is a German federal research facility and an independent federal authority based in Quedlinburg. The JKI has 1200 employees, 300 of which are scientists, in Quedlinburg, Braunschweig, Berlin and Kleinmachnow in multiple institutes as well as Bernkastel-Kues, Darmstadt, Dresden-Pillnitz, Dossenheim, Groß Lüsewitz, Münster and Siebeldingen. Other than the 15 institutes, there are units that provide support: the “Information Centre and Library” and Central Data Processing at four JKI locations as well as administration. The JKI is responsible for the entire “cultivated plants” protection target. This responsibility includes the fields of plant genetics, crop production, plant nutrition and soil science as well as plant protection and plant health. This allows the JKI to develop holistic approaches for all plant cultivation, from plant production to plant care. ... [Information of the supplier, translated]
The tasks of the Robert Koch Institute include the monitoring of emerging diseases and risk factors in the general population as well as the provision of scientific research. This allows appropriate measures to protect the general public health to be taken in a rapid and effective way. These tasks make the RKI the central institution and the coordination centre for the Federal Ministry for Health for applied and basic research in the areas of infectious diseases, including infection epidemiology and epidemiology of non-transmissible diseases. On this basis, the RKI is in the position to suggest measures for intervention and prevention, to fill gaps in the knowledge and ensure the quality of health screening and care. The RKI takes part in the preparation of guidelines, recommendations and expert opinions for the federal government, the parliament, the scientific sector and other health-related political issues. ... The new Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is the scientific body of the Federal Republic of Germany that prepares expert reports and opinions on questions of food safety and consumer health protection on the basis of internationally recognised scientific assessment criteria. With the help of risk analysis, BfR formulates action options for risk reduction. Against this backdrop, the Institute assumes an important task in improving consumer health protection and food safety. The assessments are to be presented in a transparent and comprehensible manner to the general public, scientists and other involved or interested circles. The assessment results will, in principle, be made publicly accessible whilst maintaining the confidentiality of protected data. ... [Information of the supplier]
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) led the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) contribution to the International Human Genome Project, which had as its primary goal the sequencing of the human genome. This project was successfully completed in April 2003. Now, the NHGRI's mission has expanded to encompass a broad range of studies aimed at understanding the structure and function of the human genome and its role in health and disease. To that end NHGRI supports the development of resources and technology that will accelerate genome research and its application to human health. A critical part of the NHGRI mission continues to be the study of the ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of genome research. NHGRI also supports the training of investigators and the dissemination of genome information to the public and to health professionals. ... [Information of the supplier]
