The 5th International EcoSummit Congress, EcoSummit 2016 - Ecological Sustainability: Engineering Change, will take place at The Corum Convention Centre, Montpellier from 29 August – 1 September 2016. This conference series was founded in 1996 in Copenhagen, as a forum to meet the demands of scientists working in several new ecological disciplines, and who required a better understanding of the concepts and methods for a holistic use of ecology in environmental management. Since 1996, EcoSummit has been taken around the world (Canada and China), with EcoSummit 2012 hosting 1600 participants from 75 countries in Columbus, Ohio, USA. EcoSummit 2016 will centre on the ecology of terrestrial ecosystems and all habitats that are integrated within those ecosystems, including river networks, wetlands and coastlines. Focus will be placed on fragile ecosystems that are more likely to suffer the consequences of climate change and anthropogenic pressure. However, in the current context of an increasing world population, changes in social habit (increasing world consumerism) and climate change, it is evident that agriculture is being intensified but with a growing awareness of the need to preserve and use sustainably world resources. Therefore, we will also address how terrestrial restoration can be carried out when the massive demand for food results in fragile ecosystems, forests and marginal lands being turned over to agriculture. ... The International Society for Ecological Modelling (ISEM) promotes the international exchange of ideas, scientific results, and general knowledge in the area of the application of systems analysis and simulation in ecology and natural resources management. The Society was formed in Denmark in 1978—following the journal Ecological Modelling, which was formed in 1975—and today has chapters in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa. ISEM sponsors conferences, symposia, and workshops that promote the systems philosophy in ecological research and teaching, and in the management of natural resources. This global conference is the 20th biennial conference of the Society and looks to bring together scientists from all professions and applications that deal with the use of ecological models and systems ecology. The conference will feature prominent keynote speakers, special symposia arranged by leading scientists, general oral and posters sessions, as well as preceding short courses and opportunities for field excursions following the conference. Delegates will have the choice to submit abstracts to the special symposia or the general sessions. Conference papers will be considered for a special issue in the journal Ecological Modelling. ... We are pleased to announce that the "European Conference of Tropical Ecology" and the Annual Conference of the Society for Tropical Ecology (Gesellschaft für Tropenökologie, gtö) in 2016 will be hosted by the University of Göttingen and the German Primate Center (www.gtoe-2016.de). Located near the geographical center of Europe, Göttingen is the right place for a European conference. The overarching topic will be "Tropical diversity, ecology and land use", reflecting the broad spectrum of tropical research in Göttingen on one hand and the need for integrating research and land use practices in the tropics. The conference will take place from Tuesday 23 to Friday 26 February 2016, at the Faculty of Geoscience and Geography of the University of Göttingen. It will provide a forum for the scientific exchange between tropical ecologists at all levels of their career, for the personal interaction in a friendly and international atmosphere and for establishing new contacts and cooperation. We particularly encourage students and young scientists to participate in this event. Contributions from all fields within tropical ecology are welcome. ... [Information of the supplier]
September 2016. Bitte senden Sie Ihre Abstracts an Martin Schlegel. Bitte registrieren Sie sich online. Für das Symposium werden keine Teilnahmegebühren erhoben! Wir freuen uns, Sie bald in Leipzig willkommen zu heißen! ... [Information des Anbieters]
We are pleased to announce that the “European Conference of Tropical Ecology” - the annual scientific meeting of the Society for Tropical Ecology (Gesellschaft für Tropenökologie, gtö) - will be organized in 2017 in Brussels, Belgium, by three Universities and three research-museum institutions. It will take place from Monday 6 to Friday 10 February 2017, on the campus "Etterbeek" from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, a location easily reached from the city centre by public transport. The overarching topic will be "(re)connecting tropical biodiversity in space and time". It highlights both the importance of integrating fundamental sciences inferring past processes (e.g. paleoecology, evolution, social history…) to understand current patterns of biodiversity, and the urgent need to reconnect patches of fragmented landscapes if we wish to conserve tropical biodiversity and ecological services of tropical ecosystems for future generations. This conference aims to connect researchers at all levels of their career and from all disciplines relevant to tropical ecology, and to promote scientific exchanges and cooperation in a friendly atmosphere. Students and young scientists are very welcome and to encourage them, the organizers of the conference will make their best to maintain costs accessible to all. The conference addresses also topics relevant for tropical ecosystem managers, conservationists and policy makers, who are encouraged to participate and exchange with researchers. ... Biodiversity is the foundation for almost all ecosystem services. The known relationships, though, between biodiversity and material cycling may or may not inform the translation into ecosystem services. As the concept of the ecosystem service is of interest not only to scientists but also to policy makers and stakeholders, understanding the relationship between these three components is essential. The 102nd annual meeting will support sessions that focus on and explore, in general, how biodiversity is the foundation for many ecosystem services, how ecosystem functioning can translate into ecosystem services, and the role different dimensions of biodiversity play in developing such understanding. ... Society is being transformed through the connection of data - from databases, archives, sensors and models - to analytics and other services. Working at the boundaries of computational and environmental sciences, breakthroughs in enviro-informatics multiply the convergence already underway in natural sciences. The web paradigm of Linked Data promises a breakthrough in linked, science-ready information from persistent sources. However, environmental data is scattered across many organizations in formal and informal ways, expressed using many standards, and also frequently depending on physical samples taken from the real world. Challenges are technical, social, and institutional. A growing community of earth and environmental scientists, working on the interface with computational science, are developing detailed practices and standards around identifiers, vocabularies, and software interfaces, which are necessary for wider community application. Currently, these efforts are fragmented, as is the communication of technical solutions and organisational best practices. Linking Environmental Data and Samples will bring together thought-leaders in the computational-environmental sciences convergence space, with the goal of triggering the adoption of uniform practices across Australia and internationally. ...
