Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is more and more acknowledged as one of the central small molecules that connects cellular metabolism with signaling mechanisms, biological regulation and human disease. This is an outstanding scientific conference covering the diverse roles of NAD and its derivatives in metabolism and cellular signaling. Six sessions are devoted to NAD-dependent enzymes and their roles in metabolism and physiology, in regulating chromatin and transcription, in genome integrity, and in cancer and other diseases. Signaling mechanisms involving NAD-derived second messengers as well as poly- and mono-ADP-ribosylation combined with chemical biology of NAD will complete the program. A main aspect of this conference will be to foster exchange of information and technology between researchers working on the biochemical, molecular, genetic and cell biological aspects of NAD and related molecules. Moreover, the conference will provide a unique venue for those researchers worldwide who are interested in the basic and translational aspects of NAD metabolism and signaling. ... ... The word "aging" encompasses a range of physiological changes in humans, human tissues, and constituent cells. Alterations in metabolism, whether at the level of small molecules, protein homeostasis, signaling patterns, or intertissue communication, underpin many of the processes that ultimately decline or shift during aging. The recent wealth of information on how perturbation of metabolic factors can accelerate or impair aging processes makes this an exciting time to convene and consider the new biology being uncovered, its potential impact on human health, and the implications for the coming age of precision medicine. This meeting brings together scientists who have interests in aging and metabolism to explore the growing intersection between these fields and to discuss key questions in this area for human health and disease. Leaders in the field will share results from cellular research, investigations in model organisms, and studies with translational impact rooted in mammalian systems. ... [Editorial staff vifabio]
The field of immunometabolism has thrived over the last decade, revealing not only the major roles played by immune cells in metabolic homeostasis but also the impact of metabolic pathways on immune cell function. As new discoveries continue to reveal the intricate links between immunology and metabolism, a key question arises: will our accumulated knowledge on immunometabolic deregulations translate into novel therapies for human diseases? During this Cell Symposium, you will hear about the latest advances in immunometabolism from physician-scientists, basic researchers and industry leaders. We will discuss how local and systemic metabolism are integrated at the cellular level to regulate immune cell function and we will focus on how novel insights into immunometabolism can be harnessed to advance and/or bolster therapeutic interventions in metabolic diseases, inflammation, autoimmunity, and cancer. ...
