Welcome to the 12th International Congress of Orthopterology. I am also very pleased to welcome you to Ilhéus and to Brazil. As the board of The Orthopterists’s Society decided in 2013, now the ICO will take place every 3 years. So, it is with great pleasure that I will host the next one here: from October 30th to November 03rd, 2016. The overall topic for this ICO is “Orthoptera in a Changing World”, which will raise fundamental questions about the current state of knowledge of Orthopera in different branches of science. In addition to global climate change, greater efforts have been made for more effective conservation policies. While we have a lot of undiscovered biodiversity, its loss is incessant.
