In the framework of an initiative to advance biodiversity research in Germany, we will establish three exemplary large-scale and long-term research sites (funded by the German Research Foundation). They are termed Biodiversity Exploratories, in contrast to mainly descriptive observatories. The exploratories will establish and sustain the scientific infrastructure and develop the intellectual framework needed to address critical questions about changes in biodiversity and to evaluate the impacts of those changes for ecosystem processes. Thus, in the exploratories biodiversity and ecosystem research will be merged at a large scale and with a long-term perspective. In this first phase the exploratories will address the relationship between land-use intensity, biodiversity change, and ecosystem functioning for selected taxa. After establishment, these exploratories will also integrate further contributing projects proposed by the German research community. Thus, the biodiversity exploratories will serve as a stimulating research platform for the whole German biodiversity research community. ... [Information of the supplier]
The Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (vTI) is one of four German federal research institutes under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV). The vTI was created on January 1, 2008 from the German Federal Research Centre for Fisheries, the German Federal Research Centre for Forestry and Forest Products and part of the German Federal Agricultural Research Centre. The vTI drafts scientific basics as decision-making helps for the policy of the German federal government and thus serves, with its application oriented and practice related research, the development of the society of tomorrow. The vTI pursues interdisciplinary research in the following areas: Economics (micro and macroeconomics of agriculture, forestry, lumber, food and fish production), Technology, Material use of renewable natural resources, Climate, Biodiversity, Organic Farming. The vTI comprises 15 specialty institutes. The headquarters of the vTI are in Braunschweig with facilities in Hamburg, Großhansdorf, Eberswalde, Waldsieversdorf, Rostock, Cuxhaven, Ahrensburg and Trenthorst. ... [Information of the supplier]
Our goal is to contribute to the development of a network of sustainable and ecological agricultural systems, which provide food, renewable resources and energy. The environmentally friendly nature of these systems ensures optimal soil and plant health, and promotes animal welfare, biodiversity, an efficient energy flow and nutrient cycle balance. ... ISMB 2013 will bring together scientists from a wide range of disciplines, including biology, medicine, computer science, mathematics and statistics. In these fields we are constantly dealing with information in visual form: from microscope images and photographs of gels to scatter plots, network graphs and phylogenetic trees, structural formulae and protein models to flow diagrams, visual aids for problem-solving are omnipresent. Some of the works of the annual exhibitions at the conference combines outstanding beauty and aesthetics with deep insight that perfectly proves the validity of our approach or goes beyond the problem's solution. Others were surprising and inspiring through the transition from science to art, opening our eyes and minds to reflect on the work that we are undertaking. ... [Information of the supplier]
The 2nd EMBO Conference on Visualizing Biological Data (VIZBI 2014) - also the 5th international meeting on this topic - will be held from the 5th to the 7th of March 2014 at EMBL-Heidelberg in Germany. VIZBI brings together scientists, illustrators, and designers actively using or developing computational visualization to study a diverse range of biological data. The conference features 21 invited talks that review the state-of-the-art and challenges in visualizing data from genomes, transcripts, proteins, cells, organisms, and populations. Prior to the meeting, on 4th March, will be 12 tutorials on key visualization tools & methods. Tutorial topics will be decided by the call for Tutorial Proposals, and be finalized in December. ... CTLS 2016 aims to bring together not only scientists, technicians and managers, but also decision makers and opinion leaders involved in Core Technology facilities and resource laboratories in all fields of Life Science. Building on the success of CTLS 2014 held at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, this meeting will be a unique opportunity to listen and discuss with colleagues and peers about challenges and solutions on all scientific, technological, managerial funding, educational and community building aspects of core facilities and infrastructures. Keynote lectures will provide the big picture of this dynamic field, complimented by five plenary sessions comprising both oral and poster presentations, which will allow presenters and attendees to explore and discuss issues concerning European core facilities and infrastructures. There will also be ample opportunity for existing and prospective core facility networks or interest groups to organise satellite meetings. ... [Information of the supplier]
