ZOBODAT (Zoological Botanical Database, formerly ZOODAT) is a digitally organised biogeographical database including analysis, documentation and communication facilities. Founded by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ernst Rudolf Reichl in 1972, ZOBODAT was taken over by the province of Upper Austria in 1999 and is located at the Biology Centre of the Upper Austrian Provincial Museums. The database contains data on the distribution of animal and plant species and diverse supporting digital libraries. Traditionally most of the data refers to insects and geographically to Austria. However, ZOBODAT can be used for all organism groups and worldwide. At this time some Biology Centre data records that already exist in digital form are not yet completely integrated into ZOBODAT. This applies to part of the entomology collection and part of the invertebrate collection not including insects. As newly set goals besides the traditional representation of distributions on maps, user-friendly analysis possibilities were developed, making rapid inquiries of information on species, geographical areas and area-specific nature protection questions possible. Gradated user access makes differentiated data security possible. ZOBODAT is to be expanded into a user-friendly information system for scientists, nature protection authorities and the public. ...
... Given that Mexico is one of the five megadiverse countries with the highest biological diversity – which means that it is blessed with a very high number of ecosystem types, animal and plant species, and great genetic variation – it is important that such richness is afforded special consideration by government, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions, and that the conservation and the sustainable use of the country’s biological diversity is promoted. For this reason, an International Meeting on the Problems of the Knowledge and Conservation of Biodiversity was held on February 13 and 14, 1992. This meeting was convened by the President of Mexico, with the main discussion issues covering the critical aspects of our present knowledge of biodiversity, the current risks to biodiversity and the possible consequences of these risks, as well as the appropriate actions to be taken to safeguard its conservation. As a result of this meeting, the President of Mexico created, on March 16th, 1992, the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO). CONABIO is an Inter-Ministerial Commission mainly dedicated to: develop, maintain and update the National System of Biodiversity Information (SNIB); support projects and studies focused on the knowledge and sustainable use of biodiversity; advise governmental institutions and other sectors; undertake special projects; share knowledge on biological diversity; follow up on international agreements related to biodiversity, and provide services to the public. ... For several years, together with various Austrian publishers of scientific journals in biology and earth sciences, there has been an attempt to make publications in the form of citations and PDF documents available. More than 400,000 pages already exist and another 200,000 will follow in 2009. The PDF documents are completely OCRed, or are produced directly from digital layouts, so their content can be copied to a text editor. ... [Information of the supplier, translated]
Within the limits of Portuguese activities in the construction of a European protection area system “Natura 2000” the naturally occurring habitats were recorded by the Associação Lusitana de Fitossociologia (ALFA); descriptions were formulated according to the rules of the Instituto de Conservação da Natureza (ICN), which can be downloaded in pdf format. The habitats were divided into the following nine groups: coastal habitats and salt tolerant vegetation, coastal dunes and inland dunes, freshwater habitats, heaths and shrubs of the temperate zones, maquis shrubs, natural and semi-natural herbaceous formations, highland and lowland moors, and swamps, rocky environments, and forests. ...
