On the following pages you will learn something about my work with terrestrial orchids. My main interest lies in the culture and propagation of native orchids, and orchids from other cool-temperate and Mediterranean regions. Here, I have described mainly my own experiences and give an overview as well as typical examples. As presented here, it works for me, but of course I know that other people with other methods and procedures also cultivate and propagate terrestrial orchids successfully. ...
If all the books in the world were to be digitised, some contemporaries believe the horticultural library (Bücherei des deutschen Gartenbaus, Potsdam) would be superfluous, as all books would be on the Internet. We do not believe that it will come to that. However, various institutions worldwide have begun to digitise historial literature and make it available on the Internet. Among them is, already, a good number of horticultural books. A specific title can be easily found on the Internet. It is difficult, however, to find an overview of digitised horticultural literature. As the few horticultural books are lost in the flood of other books, we found it useful to filter them out for quick retrieval. Botanical, architectural, literary and sivicultural works are selected for inclusion. Works that are plain text and not scans are not included. ... [Information of the supplier, translated]

Hortigate goes back to the regional horticultural information service InfoAuto developed by DLR Rheinpfalz (Rhenish Palatinate) in the 1990s in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. Together with various horticultural partners and sponsors (see links) a project was begun in 2002 as an initiative of the Federal Subject Group Vegetable Growing of the Central Association for Horticulture in Bonn. The aim is to build up a successful regional information service, countrywide, for the most important branches of German horticulture. The countrywide horticultural information system Hortigate was launched. The further development followed with financial support from the Federal Ministry for Nutrition, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, and the Agricultural Annuity Bank. ... The Biographical Collection is an online-searchable extract from the Zander Index and contains roughly 7600 documents of biographical data on gardeners and horticultural scientists from all fields of horticulture; also included are many people that have contributed to botany. Biographical cards denoted with the BS entry indicate that illustrations, full-text and more information on a specific person are in the special collection of the Horticultural Library. The entire Zander Index, named for its founder, Dr Robert Zander, consists of an estimated 216,000 index cards containing literature notes from approximately 30 German-language horticultural journals for the time period from 1783 to 1920. In addition, the journals “Gartenwelt” (Garden World) and “Gartenbauwirtschaft” (Horticultural Economy) were evaluated until 1930 and 1941, respectively. Occasionally, newer documents are also included. The Index, in its entirety, can currently only be used in the Horticultural Library in Berlin. ... ...
