The Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles, together with Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (PARC) and the herpetological societies of Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas, the Center for North American Herpetology, and the International Society for the History and Bibliography of Herpetology will hold a joint meeting from July 30-August 2, 2015 on the beautiful and centrally located campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence. All scientific sessions will be held in the Kansas Union, which is adjacent to the KU Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum, the setting of more than a century of research and graduate education in herpetology. Der erste bundesweite Überblick zur Verbreitung der Amphibien und Reptilien Deutschlands erschien 1996 in dem von Rainer Günther herausgegebenen Standardwerk “Die Amphibien und Reptilien Deutschlands”. Im Herbst 2012 beantragte die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Feldherpetologie und Artenschutz der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Herpetologie und Terrarienkunde e.V. (DGHT) in Kooperation mit der Universität Trier ein Projekt beim Bundesamt für Naturschutz (BfN), das in Vorbereitung auf die Roten Listen 2020 alle bundesweit verfügbaren Verbreitungsdaten der Amphibien und Reptilien in einer Datenbank zusammenführen sollte. Das Bundesamt für Naturschutz förderte das Projekt von Dezember 2012 bis November 2014 mit Mitteln aus dem Umweltforschungsplan des Bundesministeriums für Umwelt, Naturschutz, Bau und Reaktorsicherheit. Ein Ziel beim Aufbau der Datenbank mit nun ca. 590.000 Datensätzen war die Publikation des hier präsentierten digitalen Atlaswerkes. 18 Jahre nach dem Standardwerk von Rainer Günther bietet der Atlas nun einen aktuellen bundesweiten Überblick zur Verbreitung der Arten - erstmals auch in der genaueren Auflösung von Messtischblattquadranten (exklusive naturschutzfachlich besonders sensibler Arten). ...
