A collaboration between Cell Press, UCSF, and MIT, this conference brings together leading thinkers in technology, biology, and data science for an innovative two and a half day meeting dedicated to the burgeoning research areas where these three fields are intersecting. The meeting will be held from October 9–11, 2016 at The Claremont Hotel Club and Spa in Berkeley, California. Fostering collaboration and cross-disciplinary discussions will be a key theme, so in addition to short scientific talks, attendees will be treated to on-stage interviews, panel discussions, and plenty of in-person social and networking opportunities with each other and the invited speakers. Sessions will focus on technologies for multifaceted measurement of biological systems, computational data analysis and integration, understanding molecular mechanisms, perturbing and engineering biology, applications to disease and medicine, and commercial applications. Topics ranging from systems and synthetic biology, digital healthcare, cancer, genomics, immunology, biological engineering, microbiology, and cell biology will be covered, but anyone interested in interdisciplinary life sciences research and its applications should attend. ... The International Society for Ecological Modelling (ISEM) promotes the international exchange of ideas, scientific results, and general knowledge in the area of the application of systems analysis and simulation in ecology and natural resources management. The Society was formed in Denmark in 1978—following the journal Ecological Modelling, which was formed in 1975—and today has chapters in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa. ISEM sponsors conferences, symposia, and workshops that promote the systems philosophy in ecological research and teaching, and in the management of natural resources. This global conference is the 20th biennial conference of the Society and looks to bring together scientists from all professions and applications that deal with the use of ecological models and systems ecology. The conference will feature prominent keynote speakers, special symposia arranged by leading scientists, general oral and posters sessions, as well as preceding short courses and opportunities for field excursions following the conference. Delegates will have the choice to submit abstracts to the special symposia or the general sessions. Conference papers will be considered for a special issue in the journal Ecological Modelling. ... Cell biology is currently undergoing an historic transition from a qualitative to a quantitative science. For the past two decades, computational modeling has played a pivotal role in this transition, and now, interdisciplinary collaborations combining both in silico and in vivo components are the gold standard for cellular research. However, barriers separating the conventional disciplines continue to hinder successful implementation of this powerful hybrid approach, leaving a myriad of complex biological phenomena virtually impenetrable. To this end, we are providing a conference that will serve as a platform for the exchanging of ideas and synthesis of collaborations between experimentalists and theoreticians from a broad spectrum of disciplines and career stages. ... By the time scientists arrive in San Diego in December 2015, an estimated 40,000 papers on cell biology will have been published since the 2014 meeting. Even more data will be available on imaging, protein structures, genomics, gene expression, and more. Our challenge is to convert this information into meaningful knowledge to understand how cells work. The 2015 ASCB meeting overarching theme is about making connections at different scales, from the intracellular level to the tissue level, to the organism level all the way up to the macrocosmic level, all in the light of big data and information integration. This integration will help us ask the right questions and find answers to the challenging problems in medicine, living systems, and ecosystems. Cell biology is increasingly relevant not only to those who think of themselves as cell biologists but also to more specialized researchers in neuroscience, immunology, cancer biology, synthetic biology, biophysics, molecular medicine, and more. ... Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the IPCAT conference series, IPCAT 2015 aims to bring together researchers from the biological, physical, computational and mathematical sciences who have a common interest in the nature of biological information processing. We welcome both those who are interested in understanding biological systems and those who are interested in applying biological principles within artificial systems. This year's conference will take place in the biomedical hub city of San Diego, California. ... [Information of the supplier]
