ALTBIB: Bibliography on Alternatives to the Use of Live Vertebrates in Biomedical Research and Testing - The intent of the bibliography is to assist in identifying methods and procedures helpful in supporting the development, testing, application, and validation of alternatives to the use of vertebrates in biomedical research and toxicology testing. This bibliography is produced from MEDLARS database searches, performed and analyzed by subject experts from the Toxicology and Environmental Health Information Program (TEHIP) of the Specialized Information Services Division (SIS) of the National Library of Medicine (NLM). ... PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), developed and managed by NIH's National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) in the National Library of Medicine (NLM). With PubMed Central, NLM is taking the lead in preserving and maintaining unrestricted access to the electronic literature, just as it has done for decades with the printed biomedical literature. PubMed Central aims to fill the role of a world class library in the digital age. It is not a journal publisher. NLM believes that giving all users free and unrestricted access to the material in PubMed Central is the best way to ensure the durability and utility of the archive as technology changes over time. ... The Australian Faunal Directory (AFD) is being compiled as a public enquiry database and will serve as a source of taxonomic and biological information on all animal species known to occur in Australia. It incorporates the data from the terminated Zoological Catalogue of Australia database project. [Information of the supplier]
Metazome is a database and graphical user interface enabling comparative genomic studies within the Metazoa. As of version 1.1, the database houses eleven sequenced animal genomes and is constantly growing as new genomes become available. Each gene has been annotated with PFAM, KOG, and PANTHER assignments, and publicly available annotations from RefSeq, SwissProt, Ensembl, and JGI are hyper-linked and searchable. For comparative studies, various clustering methods have been applied to construct orthologous groups of genes that represent the modern descendents of ancestral gene sets at key phylogenetic nodes, including the ancestral tetrapod and vertebrate. These clusterings allow easy access to clade specific orthology/paralogy relationships as well as clade specific genes and gene expansions. Position specific profiles will be made available shortly and gene phylogenetic trees are available now for each cluster to enable deeper comparative studies. ... [Information of the supplier]
Zoological Record (ZR) is the world's oldest continuing database of animal biology. More than a century of experience has made ZR a respected resource for: (a) information from every field in animal biology, (b) projects in academic, government, and commercial organizations, (c) reliable and in-depth information searches. Because ZR's coverage extends back to 1864, it has long acted as the world's unofficial register of animal names. But this is only one aspect, as its scope of coverage represents every area of animal biology, from biodiversity and the environment to taxonomy and veterinary sciences. ...
