Applications of conservation genetics, both in science and practice, are ever increasing. The ongoing revolution in molecular methodology opens up new possibilities for conservation genetic research. At the same time, conservation management is increasingly using genetic approaches for various practical applications, such as diagnosis, population size estimation, mating patterns and inbreeding, gene flow, fragmentation, connectivity, hybridization, adaptation and genetic monitoring. While in English-speaking countries several recurrent meetings exist that allow researchers and managers to exchange results and discuss new ideas on conservation genetics, no such platform exists in Central Europe. The aim of the Annual Meetings in Conservation Genetics is thus to bring together scientists and managers from Central Europe (mainly Germany, Austria and Switzerland) working on conservation genetics. We invite all scientists, postdocs, PhD students, Master students and, especially, conservation practitioners interested in conservation genetics to attend and contribute to the 1st Annual Meeting in Conservation Genetics taking place in Birmensdorf / Zürich, Switzerland. In the following years, the annual meeting will be hosted by different institutions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Conference objectives: (1) Inform researchers and managers on exciting conservation genetic research and emerging new developments, with a focus on Central Europe, (2) Provide a platform for personal exchange for scientists, students and managers interested in conservation genetics (including an extended poster session), (3) Establish a network for researchers in conservation genetics in Central Europe, (4) Present keynotes given by prominent scientists from within the European conservation genetic community. ... Just a decade after the first forest tree genome sequence was published (that of black cottonwood in 2006), the rapidly evolving tools and methods of 'omics' and bioinformatics have advanced our understanding of the following topics: tree growth and development; the responses of trees to intrinsic and extrinsic factors; the remarkable buffering capacity of trees, enabling them to cope with chronic stresses and extreme events; the molecular basis of genetic variation within and between species and the way in which this variation has been shaped by evolutionary forces and its relationship to phenotypic variation and adaptation. Genomics will undoubtedly play a major role over the next decade and beyond, not only to further understand the mechanisms underlying the adaptation and evolution of these organisms, but also to develop and implement innovative management and policy actions to preserve the adaptability of natural forests and intensively managed plantations. Knowledge gained through the use of 'omics' technologies can thus have a huge potential impact when helping forests adapt to the main challenges they will face in the future (e.g. increasing wood demand, pressure to conserve forest areas, climate changes and associated threats). Therefore, the objective of this conference - bringing together researchers from the four working parties of IUFRO subdivision 2.4 (Forest Genetics) - is to present and discuss new scientific findings in the area of population, quantitative and evolutionary genetics and how they can be applied in genetic resource conservation and breeding. Participants may submit contributions from empirical, experimental and theoretical pieces of works, that address key leading scientific and applied issues. ... [Information of the supplier]

We heartily invite you to the 4th Annual Meeting in Conservation Genetics – From Genomes to Application held in Frankfurt am Main from 26.-28.02.2020 at the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum. The conference is intended for researchers, conservationists and environmental managers interested in the application of genomic tools in conservation. The prevailing question throughout all sessions, workshops and plenary talks will be: How to use the countless opportunities provided by modern genomics to improve conservation practices and management of natural resources in a human-dominated world? ...
