After the death of Dr. Jany Renz in 1999, the University of Basel received his herbarium and library by legacy. The Swiss Orchid Foundation has been established on October 3th, 2001 to maintain this cultural and scientific heritage. Now there are 26.000 Herbarium Specimens of Orchids from the Collection of Renz, Bernoulli & Cario, Basel Botanische Gesellschaft (BBG) and Botanisches Institut Basel (BIB) available on our Website. The Foundation has started to establish the World Orchid Iconography: It will document all the orchid species on Earth by means of substantial graphical material, which is provided on this website. It consists of photographs, hand-coloured drawings and herbarium specimens. With ca. 140,000 entries, BibliOrchidea is the largest orchid literature database worldwide. It contains most of the existing journal articles, books and preprints on orchids. ... [Information of the supplier]

Going around Italy, in the right season (spring, in particular), you have a good chance to find one of the italian terrestrial orchids. The best thing to do, at this point, is to use a photographic camera and, possibly, a macro lens, to get a picture of the orchid spike and leave the plant where you have found it. The people of the "Italian Group for the Research on Wild Orchids" will be pleased because the complex natural history of this family and the continuous attack due to the anthropic use of our land lead to some danger of extinction of many orchids species. In the "Genera" window, you will find a list of the genera: clicking on the name will show a typical image in the"Image" window. The label of the image is clickable and will enter the "genus page"; if the image is clickable, this link will start a sequence of different images: this may be useful for the genera containing many species with different aspects. ... The Asia branch of the Orchid Specialist Group is a network of individuals and organisations based in (or with an interest in) one of the countries or territories of the region (Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, North Korea, Philippines, People’s Republic of China, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam) who actively dedicate their time and technical expertise towards improved understanding of Asia’s native orchids and the practical means by which their conservation status may be ameliorated. Our members include scientists, government officers, business people, land managers and non-professional experts who together strive to achieve the vision of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, namely, “A world that values and conserves present levels of biodiversity”. We recognise the significant impacts the prevailing threats of the region have on native orchid populations - in particular, the degradation and fragmentation of orchid habitats associated with urbanisation and the expansion of agriculture and plantation forestry, and the targeted collection of wild orchids to supply the horticultural and medicinal plant trades. ...
