The Internet portal gmo-safety.eu provides up-to-date clear and intelligible information about current and past biosafety research into genetically modified plants in Germany. The focus is on projects supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The sections ‘Maize’, ‘Grain’, ‘Potatoes’, ‘Oilseed rape’, ‘Woody plants’, ‘Monitoring’ and ‘Gene transfer’ provide comprehensive basic information about the key BMBF-funded research areas. A database with summaries of research topics, methods and results (‘Database’) is supplemented by exciting insights into the everyday working lives of researchers (‘Science live’), background reports on individual topics (‘Focus’) and news stories on everything to do with biological safety research both in Germany and at international level (‘News’). The ‘Debate’ section is designed to enliven the discussion about green genetic engineering by offering new perspectives and surprising points of view – this section regularly presents interesting texts on scientifically and socially relevant topics. There is also a glossary with key terms, a photo database and a schools portal (German only) with suggestions for teachers. ... [Information of the supplier]
This "Glossary of Biotechnology for Food and Agriculture" is a revised, augmented version of the "Glossary of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering" published by FAO in 1999. The idea for such a collection of terminology associated with the rapidly expanding fields related to or deriving from biotechnology and genetic engineering, was stimulated by the difficulty of communicating effectively in discussions at intergovernmental level. On various occasions, simple differences of interpretation of terminology have threatened to de-rail negotiations of international importance. This Glossary tries to provide a consolidated, comprehensive and yet accessible list of terms and acronyms that are used regularly in biotechnology for food and agriculture and that represent a convenient reference source for researchers, students and technicians. (...) The new edition contains about 450 new terms and about 100 terms have been deleted. It now contains 3,196 terms and related definitions. A number of definitions have been improved to enhance the coherence of the Glossary. This new edition also has a slightly modified title. The new title reflects more precisely the scope of the Glossary, limited to terms involving biotechnology for food and agriculture. ... [Information of the supplier, modified]

The Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (vTI) is one of four German federal research institutes under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV). The vTI was created on January 1, 2008 from the German Federal Research Centre for Fisheries, the German Federal Research Centre for Forestry and Forest Products and part of the German Federal Agricultural Research Centre. The vTI drafts scientific basics as decision-making helps for the policy of the German federal government and thus serves, with its application oriented and practice related research, the development of the society of tomorrow. The vTI pursues interdisciplinary research in the following areas: Economics (micro and macroeconomics of agriculture, forestry, lumber, food and fish production), Technology, Material use of renewable natural resources, Climate, Biodiversity, Organic Farming. The vTI comprises 15 specialty institutes. The headquarters of the vTI are in Braunschweig with facilities in Hamburg, Großhansdorf, Eberswalde, Waldsieversdorf, Rostock, Cuxhaven, Ahrensburg and Trenthorst. ... [Information of the supplier]
