The 50th Marine Biology Symposium is taking place on Helgoland, a site with important phyto-, zooplankton and other time series. The overarching theme of this EMBS will therefore revolve around long-term changes in the coastal and marine environment. However the programme will take a holistic approach and deal with different aspects of time series research from the primary science (long-term changes, foodweb interactions etc) via data management and emerging technologies (e.g. autonomous sensors) to investigating/communicating the societal relevance of results emanating from time series data. ... Welcome to the website of the North Sea Open Science Conference 2016. This conference will highlight state-of-the-art knowledge, solutions and prospects to enlarge the scientific basis for an ecosystem-based management of the North Sea. Two main pillars with associated themes will structure the content of the conference: (a) Scientific fundament, comprising spatio-temporal patterns and marine ecosystem processes; (b) Science for management and policy, comprising ecosystem assessment, assessment tools, and socio-economic relevance. The conference is open to fundamental and applied research, lessons-learnt from both successes and failures in marine management, and innovative measurement and data handling concepts from within and beyond the North Sea.The conference will equally cover biodiversity and physico-chemical environmental aspects of the North Sea. The conference will make use of very innovative formats moving away from frustrating parallel sessions, encouraging other types of presentations than traditional powerpoints and promoting participatory methodologies (i.e. Fish bowls) to stimulate real dialogue among participants. Come join us for a unique science- policy- society trialogue on the North Sea! ... [Information of the supplier]
Please join us in Woods Hole on beautiful Cape Cod as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the discovery of deep-sea hydrothermal vents at the Galapagos Spreading Center in 1977. This has forever changed our perception of life on Earth and has sparked a new line of research to investigate the role of chemosynthesis in various ecosystems, from cold seeps and organic falls to the extensive oxygen deficient zones of the oceanic water column. The discovery of deep-sea hydrothermal vents 40 years ago has thrust the process of chemosynthesis into the limelight. However, it is only more recently that chemosynthesis has been identified to be an important driver for many environmentally relevant processes on a global scale. CBE6 represents the 6th iteration of a successful symposium series that started back in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal in 1997 and has since been held in Brest, France (2001), San Diego, USA (2005), Okinawa, Japan (2009), and most recently in Victoria, BC, Canada (2013), ever broadening in scope from an initial focus on the biology of deep-sea hydrothermal vents. ... The World Conference on Marine Biodiversity (WCMB) has become the major focal assembly to share research outcomes, management and policy issues, and discussions on the role of biodiversity in sustaining ocean ecosystems. Arranged on a 3 - 4 year cycle, prior WCMB meetings (Valencia, Spain; Aberdeen, Scotland; Qingdao, China) have each attracted leading specialists from around the world, and catalyzed numerous sidebar sessions on marine biodiversity issues. The 4th World Conference on Marine Biodiversity will be held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, Québec, Canada, from May 13-16, 2018. This meeting will bring together scientists, practitioners, and policy makers to discuss and advance our understanding of the importance and current state of biodiversity in the marine environment. Through a mix of keynote sessions, contributed talks and posters, and bookable venues for focused meetings, the conference program will address marine biodiversity across a deliberately wide range of relevant sectors. Participation will be encouraged from the broadest possible range of stakeholder groups from academics to industry. ... [Information of the supplier]
The Society for Conservation Biology’s Marine Section (SCB Marine) invites you to attend the 5th International Marine Conservation Congress (IMCC5), which will be held June 24 – 29 2018 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia (Airport code: KCH). IMCC is a biennial meeting organized by SCB Marine. IMCC brings together more than 1,000 marine scientists, professionals, stakeholders, and students from around the world.
