ZOBODAT (Zoological Botanical Database, formerly ZOODAT) is a digitally organised biogeographical database including analysis, documentation and communication facilities. Founded by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ernst Rudolf Reichl in 1972, ZOBODAT was taken over by the province of Upper Austria in 1999 and is located at the Biology Centre of the Upper Austrian Provincial Museums. The database contains data on the distribution of animal and plant species and diverse supporting digital libraries. Traditionally most of the data refers to insects and geographically to Austria. However, ZOBODAT can be used for all organism groups and worldwide. At this time some Biology Centre data records that already exist in digital form are not yet completely integrated into ZOBODAT. This applies to part of the entomology collection and part of the invertebrate collection not including insects. As newly set goals besides the traditional representation of distributions on maps, user-friendly analysis possibilities were developed, making rapid inquiries of information on species, geographical areas and area-specific nature protection questions possible. Die Delattinia ist eine Vereinigung von ehrenamtlich tätigen Naturforschern, die sich mit der Erfassung der Flora und Fauna des Saarlandes beschäftigt. Der Verein wurde 1968 auf Initiative von Prof. Dr. Gustaf de Lattin gegründet. Prof. de Lattin, nach dessen Namen sich die Arbeitsgemeinschaft ab 1981 benannt hat, war von 1960 bis 1968 Ordinarius für Zoologie an der Universität Saarbrücken. Given that Mexico is one of the five megadiverse countries with the highest biological diversity – which means that it is blessed with a very high number of ecosystem types, animal and plant species, and great genetic variation – it is important that such richness is afforded special consideration by government, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions, and that the conservation and the sustainable use of the country’s biological diversity is promoted. For this reason, an International Meeting on the Problems of the Knowledge and Conservation of Biodiversity was held on February 13 and 14, 1992. This meeting was convened by the President of Mexico, with the main discussion issues covering the critical aspects of our present knowledge of biodiversity, the current risks to biodiversity and the possible consequences of these risks, as well as the appropriate actions to be taken to safeguard its conservation. As a result of this meeting, the President of Mexico created, on March 16th, 1992, the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO).
