The objective of this database is to provide information on all topics relevant to marine sciences - be it people with their expertise, institutions and their mandate, publications,... Different types of 'knowledge items' correspond to different modules in the system, each with their own entry into the database (...). Information relevant to marine sciences in the Flanders, or to the southern part of the North Sea, is actively pursued. (...) Information from further afield is also stored, and users are welcome to comment, but the VMDC will not actively go and look for this information.Different search screens defined at this moment are: Person / Institute / Publication / Journal / Conference / Project / Dataset. ... EUNIS data are collected and maintained by the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity for the European Environment Agency and the European Environmental Information Observation Network to be used for environmental reporting and for assistance to the NATURA2000 process (EU Birds and Habitats Directives) and coordinated to the related EMERALD Network of the Bern Convention. EUNIS consists of information on Species, Habitat types and Sites. The information includes: Data on Species, Habitats and Sites compiled in the framework of the NATURA2000 (EU Habitats and Birds Directives), but also data collected by ETC/NPB(formerly the European Topic Centre for Nature Conservation) from literature and other sources as reference data; Information on Species, Habitats and Sites taken into account in relevant international conventions; Specific data collected in the framework of the EEA reporting activities, which also constitute a core set of data to be up-dated periodically. ... ALTER-Net is a network of 24 partner institutes from 17 European countries. ALTER-Net integrates research capacities across Europe: assessing changes in biodiversity, analyzing the effect of those changes on ecosystem services and informing the public and policy makers about this at a European scale. Originally funded by the European Union’s Framework VI program to stimulate a collaborative approach, ALTER-Net is now operating independently. On this website you can find information about key issues of concern and ALTER-Net projects contributing to the lasting integration of Europe’s research capacity on biodiversity. ALTER-Net is building upon a number of activities developed during the first (EC-funded phase), including: (1) Identification of common research priorities and development of a common research programme, (2) Further development of the LTER-Europe network of Long-Term Ecosystem Research sites (LTER) and Long-Term Socio-Ecological Research platforms (LTSER). ... BiodivERsA is a network composed of national organisations funding or managing research programmes on biodiversity across Europe. The objectives of this ERA-Net are to promote the cooperation between funding agencies in the field of biodiversity research and to coordinate research programmes at strategic and management levels to eventually develop and implement joint activities. The European partners in the BiodivERsA network have joined efforts to organize and fund a Pan-European call for international research projects on biodiversity and ecosystem services. ... he main objective of EU BON is to build a substantial part of the Group on Earth Observation’s Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON). In light of the new Intergovernmental science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), such a network and approach are imperative for attaining efficient processes of data collation, analysis and provisioning to stakeholders. A key feature of EU BON will be the delivery of near-real-time relevant data – both from on-ground observation and remote sensing – to the various stakeholders and end users ranging from local to global levels. Doing so will require (1) the establishment and adoption of new data standards and integration techniques, (2) harmonized data collection, and (3) the development of new approaches and strategies for future biodiversity monitoring and assessment. We will develop and provide practical indicators and interpretation tools for endusers from, e.g., agriculture to nature conservation. EU BON will support national and international authorities, as well as private stakeholders and the general public with integrated and scientifically sound biodiversity data analyses. The project intends to develop a full-scale model for a durable mechanism for higher level integration of biodiversity information providers and users through a network of networks approach scalable from local to global biodiversity observation systems. ...
