The presented model aims at simulating potential faunistic diversity at any given 1x1km grid cell in Switzerland. Based on species-specific habitat requirements supplied by experts the model checks each grid cell to determine to what extent the required habitats are present. This procedure enables us to estimate the potential geographical distribution of more than 3000 faunistic species. In contrast to approaches that relate presence/absence data to biophysical properties, we do not use survey data in a statistical or predictive model. Survey data are used to check the performance of the expert model. The model is a welcome supplement to the generally time-consuming approach of field sampling. Information concerning spatial distribution of biodiversity relevant areas (biodiversity hot-spots, red list species) can be quickly and easily extracted. ... [Information of the supplier]
IBS Vancouver 2022 is the 10th Biennial Conference of the International Biogeography Society, a society formed in 2001 that aims to bring together students, scientists and others working in varying fields on the geography of nature. This year, we're excited to be holding the event as a hybrid event. Attend in-person in Vancouver, BC, Canada, or online as a virtual attendee from anywhere around the world. ... Rudolf Leuckart was considered the "Father of Parasitology" as well as one of the most famous zoologists of the 19th century. His Wandtafeln (wall charts), produced from 1877 to 1892, were used worldwide as teaching aids. These remarkable charts, now stored in a specially constructed cabinet in a controlled environment, have been repaired, tabulated, photographed, and digitized so that they can continue to be a unique teaching aid in the study of zoology. The representations available here were scanned from slides. ... [Information of the supplier, modified]

"Where do we come from?", "Who are we?", "Where are we going to?" The exhibition of the Neanderthal Museum is based on those central topics. One can find them in any part of the house. The permanent exhibition traces humankind's long journey from the origins in the African savannahs to the urban centres of our times. Of course, emphasis is given to the Neanderthals and the true-to-life figures based upon skeletal remains which were reconstructed using the latest forensic methods. Multimedia arrangements and audio-experiences, but also classical media such as exhibits and texts give vivid insights into the results of current archaeological and palaeoanthropological research. Computer terminals offer the opportunity for further individual in-depth research. ... [Information of the supplier]
... The SDEI is the embodiment of tradition in German Entomology. Founded in 1886 as a "National Museum" with emphasis on systematics and taxonomy, it developed after 1922 as an institute of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gesellschaft co-operating with the Imperial Biological Institute to become a mediator between systematic and applied entomology. The tasks of a centre for information transfer serving a large number of users, particularly in the field of biodiversity research, is now of greater worldwide importance than ever before. The SDEI is unique in Germany in being able to fulfil this role. Inseparable from its research activity are the excellent entomological library and the remarkable insect collections. The Institute publishes two journals which are the basis of a worldwide literature exchange. After a history full of change, the Institute (Deutsches Entomologisches Institut, DEI) moved in 2004 to a new building on the ZALF campus at Müncheberg, since 01.01.2009 SDEI is a part of Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum. ... Present, over 20 scientists work in the various research departments of the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History Görlitz. They use the extensive collections of over 6 million animals, plants and geological objects in order to answer questions of systematics, taxonomy, ecology, geology, molecular biology and many other scientific fields. Furthermore, the collections are immensely valuable as an archive for documenting the occurrence of organisms and geological objects as well as their development in space and time. The scientific results are presented and explained to the general public through the exhibitions. In these, visitors to the museum can learn about evolution, about the geological development of Upper Lusatia and the occurrence of rare plants and animals in the region, about the rain forest and savannah as tropical habitats as well as about soil as a living ecosystem. Collection and research take place in 6 departments or sections (general zoology, entomology, soil zoology, botany, geology and molecular biology). Further information can be obtained by a click on the department name in the top line (these pages are partly still in German). ... [Information of the supplier, translated and modified]
The German Oceanographic Museum in Stralsund is the largest museum of natural science in North Germany. It is located in an early Gothic monastery, an architectural gem. The wide-ranging, up-to-date exhibitions held here provide an accessible, vivid picture of the diversity of marine life as well as its use to and exploration by man. An additional core theme is the presentation of the history of fishery in the former East Germany (GDR). ... [Information of the supplier]
