More and more species are introduced outside their natural geographic range due to the increasing rate of trade in the world. Some of them are able to establish in their new environment and to develop dense populations where they can outcompete native species or disrupt ecosystem functioning. They are called invasive alien species. The Belgian Forum on Invasive Species gathers scientific information on presence, distribution, auto-ecology, adverse impacts and management of invasive alien species. It regularly updates a reference list of exotic species in Belgium and is responsible for the elaboration of a black list gathering species with a strong detrimental impact on biodiversity. Information exchange on exotic species is promoted through this website and by occasional forum meetings. The Belgian Forum on Invasive Species supports activities of the Belgian Contact Group on Invasive Species. It is the national node of the IUCN Invasive Species Specialist Group and of the NOBANIS network. ... [Information of the supplier]
The Invasive Species Centre is hosting the 18th International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species that will be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, April 21-25, 2013. This conference series is widely considered the most comprehensive international forum on aquatic invasive species and continues to evolve to address new and emerging issues. Sessions and presentations include the review of accumulated scientific knowledge; presentation of the latest field research; introduction of new technological developments for prevention, monitoring and control; discussion of policy and legislation; and mechanisms to raise awareness with the general public through education and outreach initiatives. In recent years the conference has typically involved over 400 participants from over 30 countries, representing academia, industry, government agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders involved in the issues. Many are seeking opportunities for international cooperation and collaboration to address AIS issues from a global perspective. ... [Information of the supplier]

iMapInvasives provides an on-line, GIS-based data management system to assist citizen scientists and natural resource managers working to protect natural resources from the threat of invasive species. The iMapInvasives Partnership facilitates the management and sharing of invasive species information, including extent of infestations, search efforts, and treatment outcomes. Affordable, sustainable, and collaborative tools developed by the Partnership provide a flexible platform for aggregating invasive species data from a wide variety of sources. These tools add value by organizing the data to support early detection of new populations that may require a rapid response, and analysis of management strategies at scales relevant to user needs. The Partnership seeks to support all those working to safeguard environmental resources from the effects of invasive species including citizens, volunteers, natural and agricultural resource managers, as well as scientists, program administrators, and policy makers. ... Neobiota 2016, the 9th International Conference on Biological Invasions organised by the European Group on Biological Invasions (Neobiota), will take place in Vianden, Luxembourg, from 14 to 17 September 2016, with pre-conference COST meetings on 12-13 September 2016. This will be the third in a series of international conferences focussed on invasive alien species (IAS) on islands, their impact and management. It follows those held in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2001 and 2010*. The Dundee conference will therefore be the first such meeting for seven years, and the first to be held in the northern hemisphere. In the context of this meeting, the definition of ‘island’ is broader than just a piece of land surrounded by water. Much the same problems and solutions apply to land surrounded by predator-proof fences, and to unfenced but isolated patches of habitat such as coral reefs. This conference, hosted by the University of Dundee and the South Georgia Heritage Trust, will be a long-overdue gathering of the island invasives clan. It will build on the great success of the Auckland meetings, allow greater participation of people from Europe and North America, and bring together experts and those thirsty for knowledge in diverse fields covering the invaders and invaded. ... Charles Elton recognized that the breakdown of biogeographic barriers as a consequence of transport, trade and economic globalisation will lead to unprecedented movements of biotas among continents and oceans, resulting in increased rates of invasion by alien species. For well-studied taxa such as plants and vertebrates, we are only just beginning to understand the extent to which species are becoming distributed globally, and how much biotas are becoming similar. However, a global picture including less-studied taxonomic groups such as invertebrates and pathogens is lacking. This timely, 2-day symposium in the historic and beautiful city of Durham will bring together invasion ecologists and macroecologists, working on many different taxonomic groups, to build a global synthesis of alien species distribution and richness. The symposium will explore the major drivers behind the mixing of the world’s biotas, and the consequences for conservation of biodiversity. ... [Information of the supplier]
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you planning to attend Neobiota 2018, the 10th International Conference on Biological Invasions, which will be held in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dunlaoghaire, Co Dublin, Ireland. Dúnlaoghaire (often pronounced phonetically Dunleary) is a small town on the east coast of Ireland, about seven miles (11km) south of the capital Dublin. We cordially invite you to participate in the Fifth International Symposium, "Alien Species in the Holarctic: Borok V", to be held in September, 25-30, 2017 (tentative venue: Uglich, Yaroslavl Province, Russia). Since the second half of the 20th century alien species have been spreading and affecting terrestrial and aquatic, natural and anthropogenic ecosystems. The main goals of the Symposium are: Consolidation of efforts to study the processes of how alien plant and animal species spread in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems; Exchange of information on the vectors, causes, scales, and directions of species spread; changes in their properties in new aquatic and terrestrial habitats; Assessment of the role of the alien species in the transformation of endemic communities; evaluation of social and economic consequences of biological invasions as well as development of risk assessment approaches; Discussion of issues related to terminology, theory of species spread and study methods. ...
