Humboldt's idea of interconnectedness requires a system of flexible navigation from any point in the digital library to any other related point within or outside Humboldt's works. A further innovative feature of this dynamic system is that it can recreate the context of a particular passage and make it possible to view images, interactive maps, and information about plants, animals, and scientific facts relevant to Humboldt's observations. Although the digital library contributes by making rare books accessible, the greatest advantage of the system will be its capacity to connect data from diverse locations in Humboldt's twenty-nine volumes and allow comparison with modern scientific knowledge and developments. ... The Global Invasive Species Database was developed by the IUCN/SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG) as part of the global initiative on invasive species led by the Global Invasive Species Programme (GISP). It provides global information on invasive alien species to agencies, resource managers, decision-makers, and interested individuals. The database focuses on invasive species that threaten biodiversity and covers all taxonomic groups from micro-organisms to animals and plants. The literature database of the vegetation ecology of central Europe of the Braunschweig University Library is a current database in which scientific publications about the flora and vegetation of Central Europe are indexed. Until now, the focus has been on Germany; indexing of the relevant publications for Austria, Switzerland, Northern Italy, and Slovenia is planned. The adjacent areas are also taken into consideration in the selection. Currently ca. 11000 publications have been indexed whereby the data are continually updated and expanded. A special feature of the database is that scientists who are active in this area can themselves enter records of their publications into the database via the World Wide Web. Inside the realisation of scientific project Biological Database and GIS (no. 1-08-330), financed by the Ministry of Science of Republic of Croatia, the Croatian Information Service for Biodiversity is done. In realisation are involved the biologists from the Division of Biology (Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb), from the Croatian Natural History Museum, the colleagues from the University Computing Centre and our worth students of biology. Service for Biodiversity contains the information about biological specificity of Croatia and Croatian flora and fauna. Also the basic information about scientific project (field of biology) in Croatia, scientific institutions and biological journals are available. Service is still under development. The lot of materials are written only in one language (croatian or english), and only few exist in both languages. We will try to resolve this insufficiency as soon as possible.
