The Biological Collection Access Service for Europe, BioCASE, is a transnational network of biological collections of all kinds. BioCASE builds on the predecessor projects CDEFD, BioCISE, and ENHSIN. BioCASE enables widespread unified access to distributed and heterogeneous European collection and observational databases using open-source, system-independent software and open data standards and protocols. ... Metazome is a database and graphical user interface enabling comparative genomic studies within the Metazoa. As of version 1.1, the database houses eleven sequenced animal genomes and is constantly growing as new genomes become available. Each gene has been annotated with PFAM, KOG, and PANTHER assignments, and publicly available annotations from RefSeq, SwissProt, Ensembl, and JGI are hyper-linked and searchable. For comparative studies, various clustering methods have been applied to construct orthologous groups of genes that represent the modern descendents of ancestral gene sets at key phylogenetic nodes, including the ancestral tetrapod and vertebrate. These clusterings allow easy access to clade specific orthology/paralogy relationships as well as clade specific genes and gene expansions. Position specific profiles will be made available shortly and gene phylogenetic trees are available now for each cluster to enable deeper comparative studies. ... [Information of the supplier]
PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), developed and managed by NIH's National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) in the National Library of Medicine (NLM). With PubMed Central, NLM is taking the lead in preserving and maintaining unrestricted access to the electronic literature, just as it has done for decades with the printed biomedical literature. PubMed Central aims to fill the role of a world class library in the digital age. It is not a journal publisher. NLM believes that giving all users free and unrestricted access to the material in PubMed Central is the best way to ensure the durability and utility of the archive as technology changes over time. ... Zoological Record (ZR) is the world's oldest continuing database of animal biology. More than a century of experience has made ZR a respected resource for: (a) information from every field in animal biology, (b) projects in academic, government, and commercial organizations, (c) reliable and in-depth information searches. Because ZR's coverage extends back to 1864, it has long acted as the world's unofficial register of animal names. But this is only one aspect, as its scope of coverage represents every area of animal biology, from biodiversity and the environment to taxonomy and veterinary sciences. ... The Zoological Institute is one of the oldest scientific institutions in St. Petersburg. In 2007 the institute became 175 years old although history of establishment of collections at the institute and the museum began much earlier, i.e. since the time of Peter the Great, who purchased exhibits for the Kunstkammer, the first Russian museum established by him in 1714. The first museum catalogue (1742) lists approximately 4000 representatives of mammals, birds, amphibians, fishes, insects and invertebrates, deposited in scientific collections of the Kunstkammer. The 18th century was the age of great expeditions including the famous academic expeditions of P.S. Pallas in the southern regions of Russia and Siberia. Extensive material collected during numerous marine and land expeditions of the early 19th century filled depository of the Kunstkammer. The official opening of the Zoological Museum took place in July 1832, which is accepted as the time of its foundation. Later the museum was transformed into the Zoological Museum of the Academy of Sciences. Its scientific collections comprise approximately 60,000,000 items. The Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a leading research institution is one of the most significant zoological institutions in the world. ...
