The Genetic Science Learning Center is an outreach education program located in the midst of bioscience research at the University of Utah. Our mission is to help people understand how genetics affects their lives and society. To achieve this mission, we present education offerings for various audiences, including: 1. This website, which delivers interactive and print-based resources, free of charge, to Internet users worldwide. The website has two main components: a.) Information and activities: These address standards for science education, and are accessible to all users from the homepage b.) Teacher Resources and Lesson Plans: These are accessible from the top right of any page. They include PDF-based Print-and-Go classroom activities and teacher guides for all materials. 2. Professional development programs that update K-12 teachers' expertise in bioscience topics. See our list of upcoming courses and workshops, accessible through the Resources and Lesson Plans section of this site. 3. Public education programs that highlight topics of current interest and research underway at the University of Utah. Our educational resources provide accurate and unbiased information about topics in genetics and bioscience. Designed for non-research audiences, our materials are interactive and jargon-free, target multiple learning styles, and often convey concepts through visual elements. Our newest materials are being developed with our Exploragraphic design methodology. Some topics in genetics and bioscience research are controversial. The Learning Center does not take sides in politically or ethically charged topics. Rather, our goal is to provide comprehensive information that promotes a lively discussion of these topics, so that individuals can arrive at their own informed decisions. ... Although these literature searches were originally conceived as providing working documents for our own researches, it soon became apparent that this comprehensive catalogue of literature and illustrations should be made generally available rapidly and freely as a working tool for all those interested in working on Trichoptera material from Africa, especially for colleagues in far-distant institutes and without access to large libraries. Each page will record the name of the species, its distribution, the best illustrations of its diagnostic characters available in the literature, usually of genital structures, and the appropriate original literature. This bibliographic reference work containing over 1200 species and subspecies in 26 families and 109 genera makes no claim to be complete. The AGRIS initiative was set up by the FAO in the 70s and created a worldwide coooperation for sharing access to agricultural science and technology information. Based on available technologies, AGRIS was initially collecting bibliographic references for a central database. However, since the advent of the Internet in the late 90s AGRIS has become the brand name for a network of centres, which are promoting the exchange of agricultural science and technology information through the use of common standards and methodologies. The AGRIS open archives and bibliographical databases cover the many aspects of agriculture, including forestry, animal husbandry, aquatic sciences and fisheries, and human nutrition, extension literature from over 100 participating countries.
