The AGRIS initiative was set up by the FAO in the 70s and created a worldwide coooperation for sharing access to agricultural science and technology information. However, since the advent of the Internet in the late 90s AGRIS has become the brand name for a network of centres, which are promoting the exchange of agricultural science and technology information through the use of common standards and methodologies.
