With more than 30000 known species ground beetles show one of the most varied families in the group of the beetles. Populating a very wide variety of habitats, from treetops to deep caves, from the seashore up to alpine heights or from very wet biotopes up to extreme dry locations, there are numerous specialists. Even if most species are active only at night, and therefore run beetles do not count to the most color-splendid insects, nevertheless, they are able to fascinate not only experts. Also in Central Europe there are more than 800 species, in Europe even about 3000 species. This site would like to give an overview about the European ground beetles with photos and show to the forms, colors and detailed wealth of this group, serve not least, however, also with high-resolution photos as a determination help. ... The decision was made during the XVth European Carabidologists Meeting in Daugavpils, Latvia, August 2011 that in two years the organization will move to the Czech Republic for the first time. We are pleased to announce that the XVIth European Carabidologists Meeting will take place in September 22-27, 2013 in Prague, Czech Republic, jointly organized by specialists from Crop Research Institute (Prague), Czech University of Life Sciences (Prague) and Administration of the České Středohoří Landscape Protected Area (Litoměřice). We are proud that the meeting will be organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic.
