At the core of Flora Malesiana is the production and publication of taxonomic accounts on the flora of the region. The symposium organisers are inviting speakers to highlight new research findings which are helping to classify the massive species diversity found across the region. A particular theme of this symposium will be the role of living plants held in Botanic Gardens and Research Institutes around the world in helping to understand biodiversity. Speakers who can provide insight into the cultivation of plants from the region and how they have been used for scientific and horticultural research and conservation are particularly welcome. The classification and naming of plants is the foundation from which conservation activities can be delivered. The Symposium welcomes presentations from researchers who can highlight how their research is helping to identify plants under threat and the impact that their research is having on their conservation. The organising committee would also welcome a range of talks on other aspects of the flora of the region such as Systematics, Sustainable Development, Ecology, Biogeography, Evolutionary Biology, e-Taxonomy, Education. ... The Kingdom Fungi, constitute in excess of 1.5 million different species and they can be found in every ecosystem on our planet. By the same token, their diversity is enormous and they have a great impact on man and the environment. Their benefits are seen in the foods we consume, such as mushrooms, cheeses, drinks and sauces and now, more recently, fungi have been discovered that produce antibiotics, anticancer agents and even fuel-related compounds. Fungi are also used in the industrial manufacture of chemicals and enzymes. They are the main recyclers in the terrestrial environment, and at the same time help feed forest trees through mycorrhizal association with roots. They have close associations with algae or cyanobacteria to form lichens which are useful indicators of environmental change. Significantly, some fungi can damage food and food products, wood, furniture, fabrics, and even petroleum products. Yet, how much do we really know about the working processes of fungi, and for that matter, how many fungi really exist on the planet? The aim of this conference is to look at the enormous wealth of species and genetic diversity in the fungi, biological functions, relationships and adaptions to our changing environment and to discover their ever increasing role in providing benefits to mankind. ... Phycologists and others interested in the algae from throughout the world are invited to participate in the 10th International Phycological Congress (IPC 10) in Orlando, Florida, 4 (Sunday) - 10 (Saturday) August 2013. This Congress continues in a tradition that began in 1982 at the first IPC in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada. The overarching theme of IPC 10, Algae in a Changing World, recognizes the important roles of algae in a world where environmental changes are rapidly accelerating. Ultimate sponsorship of these Congresses is provided by the International Phycological Society (IPS). Societies other than the IPS have met in conjunction with most IPCs to date. The Phycological Society of America (PSA; http://www.psaalgae.org/) has committed to meet in conjunction with IPC 10. We welcome other phycological societies interested in meeting under the auspices of the IPC in 2013 to contact one of the conveners. ... [Information of the supplier]
