The Ecological Society of America currently stands at a boundary between 100 successful years for the Society and an uncharted future for the planet. The Centennial meeting will support both retrospective and prospective sessions – looking back at the history of the field of ecology as well as forward into its future. We welcome proposals examining historical topics and the history of ecology, as well as proposals from early career scientists and students that shine a light on the future of ecological science. Proposals that explore interdisciplinary connections with areas of social and natural science outside of ecology or that relate to ecological education at any level are also encouraged. ... Extreme events, such as heat waves, droughts, floods, fires and storms, are exacerbated by human activities and challenge populations, communities and ecosystems, as well as our human health and living conditions. The ability of ecosystems to respond to these challenges depends on the integrity of resilience mechanisms that have been severely undermined by land-use practices that increase effects of extreme conditions. Past civilizations, such as the Maya and Mesopotamians, apparently exacerbated the droughts (that caused their demise) through deforestation and agricultural practices similar to our own. Clearly, the sustainability of ecosystem services and human well-being depends on ecosystem resilience to extreme events. ... [Information of the supplier]
The community of people engaged in the science of ecology is transforming, bringing important new perspectives into the field. Inclusive approaches to ecology can build bridges between theory and practice, connect those working in disparate landscapes and subdisciplines, and incorporate diverse perspectives. Such approaches support ecologists and the ecological community as a whole as they articulate socio-environmental connections, address widespread ecosystem change, take advantage of technological advancements that provide unprecedented access to data and new analytical techniques, and engage in interdisciplinary collaborations. ... In the interest of the health and safety of our attendees, ESA will once again transition its Annual Meeting to an all-virtual model. The meeting will still take place August 2-6, 2021, and provide an opportunity for you to join colleagues and leaders from across the field and around the world for five days of inspiration and community focused on your research and your career. ... The 2022 Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of America will be held at Palais des congrès de Montréal. If public health conditions allow, the 2022 Annual Meeting will be an in-person meeting in Montréal with limited virtual content, with all speakers attending in person. If an in-person meeting is not possible, the meeting will be virtual, with all sessions held online. ... [Information of the supplier]

In 2014, the University of Hildesheim will host the 44th Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The meeting will take place from September 8th to 12th, 2014 in Hildesheim, Germany. The guiding theme of the 44th Annual Meeting is "Integrating ecological knowledge into nature conservation and ecosystem management". Along the lines of this guiding theme, we will stimulate scientific discussions on basic and applied ecological topics as well as on nature conservation and management. Special focus will be given to: biodiversity research (e.g. diversity of genes, species and ecosystems; threats and conservation), ecosystem functioning (e.g. ecosystem services, processes and functions, ecological dynamics), species and populations (e.g. interactions, competition, adaption, survival, community assembly, past and current pattern), ecosystem types (e.g. marine, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems; from polar to tropical regions, from lowlands to mountains), global change effects (e.g. climate change, land use change, nutrient deposition, invasive species), management (e.g. general and international approaches, restoration ecology, sustainable land management), conservation approaches and (e.g. linking ecological knowledge to nature conservation, environmental education, sustainability, community conservation, socio-ecological approaches, policy advice). ... In the year 1866 Ernst Haeckel introduced the term “Ecology”. The guiding theme of the 46th Annual Meeting is therefore "150 years of ecology – lessons for the future". The overarching aim of the conference is to stimulate a critical assessment of the status quo of the different disciplines of ecology. At the same time and taking into account the latest developments in ecological research we will address the following questions: Where are we? What have we learned? What are the gaps? What are the challenges for the future? We aim to present an outstanding and interesting program covering the diversity of ecological research. ... [Information of the supplier]
In 2018, the University of Natural Resources and Life Science, Vienna (BOKU), hosts the 48th Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The meeting will take place from 10-14 September 2018 in Vienna, Austria, at the former campus of the Vienna University of Economics and Business (Alte WU), Augasse 6. In times of changing conditions ecological research is facing new challenges. On the one hand complexity of the biosphere is increasingly reduced by human activities, on the other hand human activities aggravate predictability of future developments. This is reflected by our motto of this year, "Ecology - meeting the scientific challenges of a complex world". ... [Information of the supplier]
