| Abstract: | ISME17 is the 17th edition of our symposium which takes place every two years. The conference is the front runner in the field of microbial ecology, with an average of around 1,750 international scientists that attend the conference. Our next edition will take place in charming Leipzig, a city used to bringing people together, as the very first trade fair in the world took place here, back in the 12th century. The city also harbors a rich cultural history, when it comes to music and the performing arts. Composers Bach and Mendelssohn Bartholdy and philosophers Goethe, Nietsche and Leibniz all called the city their home.
