Abstract: Our knowledge of migration’s genetic basis is limited in large part to results from crossbreeding and displacement experiments. Recent advances in several fields, including genomics and movement ecology will undoubtedly change this. We will take advantage of these developments in our symposium, bringing together researchers that work not only in genomics and migration but also in the development of evolutionary theory and statistical methods. Stimulated by a series of talks, posters, workshops and discussions, we hope that by the end of this symposium we will as a group have synthesized what is known about the genetics of migration across animal groups and established a clear set of future directions to continue the development of this field.
