Abstract: The congress is organized by the International Weed Science Society (IWSS), which is celebrating 40 years of activity. After six very successful congresses in Australia (1992), Denmark (1996), Brazil (2000), South Africa (2004), Canada (2008) and China (2012), it is a big challenge for both IWSS and local organizers to uphold a very high standard of congresses and satisfy all expectations of attendees. The organizing committee is truly glad to host this prestigious event in the Czech Republic - a small, pleasant country in Central Europe with rich history, beautiful countryside, and modern infrastructure. Everyone from around the world is invited to come and actively participate in this gathering, get updated, and enjoy the favourable climate and social activities that will flavour the event. The Congress will consist of many plenary lectures and concurrent sessions on a variety of topics, offering weed scientists from all over the world the opportunity to meet and present their research. We welcome not only weed scientists but also botanists, plant physiologists, geneticists, ecologists, agronomists, engineers and others, who interact with, or conduct activities related to weed science and bring cutting-edge views and innovative solutions. Because weeds and weed management are a source of many environmental and socio-economic issues, attendance of various stakeholders and decision makers is highly appreciated.
