Abstract: It is our great honour and pleasure to invite you to the 29th European Congress of Arachnology. The congress of arachnology is returning to the Czech Republic after 21 years (15th European Colloquium of Arachnology) and to Brno after 44 years (5th International Congress on Arachnology). Brno is famous for being the city of Johann Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics. It is the second largest city in the Czech Republic with almost 500 000 inhabitants. It is located in the eastern part of the country (Moravia) and is the historical capital city and is the administrative, business, cultural and scientific centre of the Southern Moravian Region. The 29th European Congress of Arachnology is jointly organised by Masaryk University and the Czech Arachnological Society. The Czech Republic has a long tradition of research in arachnology. Particularly, Brno was home to two famous figures, František Miller (1902-1983) and Josef Kratochvíl (1909-1992). We would like to use this congress to make you familiar with the current spider research, nature and culture of the Czech Republic. We are convinced that you will enjoy the scientific sessions, the field trips and also the traditional Czech cuisine we have prepared!
