Abstract: The Federation of European Phycological Societies (FEPS) was established in 2008 on behalf of a Founders' Group of national phycological societies and phycological groups throughout Europe. A Founders' Group was formed by mutual consent for the purpose of organizing, conducting, supporting and furthering the promotion of activities in the sphere of phycology at a European level and beyond. These activities will be conducted in a federated spirit and manner, in accordance with a Constitution, also agreed by the Founders' Group. The aims of the Federation of European Phycological Societies (FEPS) are: a) To provide a forum for all European phycological societies and individuals with an interest in phycology; b) To enable, promote and enhance algal (including cyanobacterial) research, education and other activities; c) To increase public awareness of the importance of algae and cyanobacteria; d) To contribute to public debate and policy issues involving these organisms throughout Europe.
